Wet Room Kits, Tray Formers & Drainage Systems

Everything you need to build a professional, leak-free wet room — from XPS tile backer boards and shower tray formers to linear drains, waste traps, and finishing trims. All products from our Taurus wet room range.

Taurus Range Fully Waterproof Systems Square & Linear Formers Wall & Floor Kits Complete Drainage Solutions

A wet room is one of the most practical and design-forward bathroom upgrades you can make — eliminating the need for a shower tray or enclosure, creating a fully tiled, open shower floor that drains across the entire room. Done correctly, a wet room is also one of the most waterproof bathrooms you can build. Done incorrectly, it's one of the most expensive to repair. This collection brings together everything needed to do it correctly: a complete system of substrate preparation, floor forming, waterproof drainage, and finishing — all from the Taurus range, available from a single source.

The Taurus Wet Room System — What's in This Collection

🧱 Tile Backer Board Kits — Waterproof Substrate for Walls and Floors

Before any tiles go down, the substrate needs to be genuinely waterproof. Standard plasterboard — even moisture-resistant grades — will eventually fail behind tiles in a wet room environment. Our Taurus XPS tile backer boards replace plasterboard on walls and screeds on floors, providing a fully waterproof, thermally insulating, tile-ready surface that will not swell, soften, or delaminate regardless of water exposure. Available as complete kits including fixings, Pro-Seal waterproofing adhesive, and joint tape — no additional materials needed for a standard installation.

  • Wet Room Floor Kit 10mm — Pack of 4 (AP101005) — 2.88m² coverage, 1200×600×10mm XPS boards, for timber joist and concrete floors. UFH compatible.
  • Wet Room Wall Kit 12mm — Pack of 4 (AP201005) — 2.88m² coverage, 1200×600×12mm XPS boards, direct plasterboard replacement for stud and masonry walls.
  • Wet Room Wall Kit 12mm — Pack of 10 (AP201010) — 7.20m² coverage, trade-format pack for full wet room refurbishments and multi-wall installations.

🚿 Square Waste Tray Formers — Pre-Formed Wet Room Shower Floors

A tray former eliminates the labour-intensive and technically demanding task of forming a fall on a flat floor by hand. The Taurus Square Waste Tray Former range comes pre-formed with a precise gradient towards the drain position — available in 16 size and drain position combinations from 800×800mm up to 1800×900mm, with corner drain, end drain, and centre drain options. XPS construction throughout: lightweight, waterproof, thermally insulating, and fully compatible with all standard tile adhesives. Simply position, bond, waterproof the joints, and tile directly onto the former surface.

➖ Linear Waste Tray Formers — Walk-In Wet Rooms with Linear Drainage

For wet rooms designed around linear (channel) drainage rather than a point drain, our Taurus Linear Waste Tray Formers provide the same pre-formed XPS gradient solution — available in 7 size and drain position variants with 300mm end drain and 600mm offset drain configurations. Designed to work directly with the Taurus linear drain and waste system. The linear former creates a single-plane fall toward the full-width channel drain — the cleanest, most modern wet room floor aesthetic available.

🔩 Tray Former Installation Kit

The Taurus Tray Former Installation Kit contains everything required to correctly bond, seal, and waterproof a tray former installation in a single pack — waterproofing membrane, corner fleece tape, and Pro-Seal/Fix-MD adhesive. Using a dedicated installation kit rather than generic products ensures all components are chemically compatible and that the final installation meets the system's waterproofing warranty requirements.

🕳️ Shower Wastes and Drain Traps

The drain specification matters as much as the former. The wrong waste can restrict flow, create installation problems, or fail to maintain a watertight seal over time. Our range covers both point drain and linear drain applications:

  • Screw Lock Shower Waste (TW050005) — Horizontal outlet, 40 L/min flow rate, chrome grate, designed specifically for use with Taurus square waste tray formers. Screw-lock design eliminates the risk of the grate lifting under foot pressure.
  • Universal Linear Waste Trap (2-2) — Full-bore 50mm inlet and outlet, no reducer, designed for linear drain tray formers. Full-bore construction maximises flow rate and reduces the risk of blockage in high-volume wet room applications.

📏 Linear Drain Covers, Plates & Finishing Trims — 600mm

The visible surface of a linear drain is part of the room's design, and finishing quality matters. Our 600mm linear drain accessories are available in four finishes — chrome, brushed nickel, matt black, and brushed brass — to coordinate with shower valves, taps, and other bathroom hardware:

  • Linear Tileable Drain Cover 600mm — Accepts tiles cut to size, creating a virtually invisible drain line that runs flush with the surrounding floor tiles. The cleanest finish possible.
  • Linear Drain Cover Plate 600mm — Slotted metal cover plate in 4 colour options. Durable, easy to remove for cleaning, and fully corrosion-resistant.
  • Linear Finishing Trim 600mm — Perimeter trim that creates a clean, watertight transition between the linear drain channel and the surrounding tiled floor. Available in matching 4 colour options.

How to Build a Wet Room — The Complete System

A professional wet room installation follows a clear sequence. Every product in this collection maps to a specific stage of that process:

Stage 1 — Substrate Preparation Board walls with Taurus 12mm Wall Kit (AP201005 / AP201010). Board floors with Taurus 10mm Floor Kit (AP101005). Tape and seal all joints with the included Pro-Seal adhesive and waterproof tape.
Stage 2 — Former Installation Position your Square or Linear Tray Former in the shower area. Bond using the Taurus Tray Former Installation Kit. Seal all perimeter edges and penetrations with the included waterproofing membrane and fleece tape.
Stage 3 — Waste Installation Install the Screw Lock Shower Waste (square former) or Universal Linear Waste Trap (linear former) at the former drain outlet. Connect to waste pipe. Check flow before tiling.
Stage 4 — Tiling Apply a C2TE or S1 flexible cementitious tile adhesive over the boards and former surface. Tile walls first, then floor. Use a suitable grout with water and mould resistance for wet room applications.
Stage 5 — Drain Finishing Fit the Linear Tileable Drain Cover, Drain Cover Plate, or Finishing Trim to the linear drain channel in your chosen finish. Fit the Screw Lock chrome grate to the point drain. Seal the perimeter of all drain covers with appropriate silicone.

💧 Point Drain vs Linear Drain — Which Former Do You Need?

Square waste tray formers use a central point drain — the floor slopes from all four sides toward a single waste in the centre, corner, or end of the former. They are the most common choice for retrofits and standard-size shower areas. Linear waste tray formers use a full-width channel drain along one edge of the shower area — the floor slopes as a single plane toward the channel. Linear drainage gives a cleaner aesthetic, is easier to tile in large-format tiles (single direction of fall), and better suits walk-in wet rooms and level-access shower designs. Both systems are fully available in this collection.

Why Waterproof Substrate Matters in a Wet Room

Unlike a shower enclosure, where the shower tray contains water within a defined area, a wet room floor is exposed to water across its entire surface. There is no perimeter seal and no raised threshold to prevent water reaching the wall base. This means every square centimetre of floor and lower wall substrate must be genuinely waterproof — not moisture-resistant, not damp-proof, but waterproof.

Standard plasterboard, even moisture-resistant grades, will absorb water behind grout joints over time. This leads to tile bond failure, mould growth within the wall structure, and ultimately structural damage that is both disruptive and expensive to repair. Taurus XPS tile backer boards are inorganic, closed-cell, and impermeable. They will not absorb water, will not support mould growth, and will not lose structural integrity regardless of how long they remain in contact with water.

Combined with a Taurus tray former — which provides a factory-engineered gradient toward the drain, eliminating the risk of standing water — and a correctly specified waste trap and drain finish, the Taurus system provides a complete, engineered wet room solution rather than a collection of individually sourced components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these products for a DIY wet room installation?

The Taurus range is designed for professional installation but many of the products — particularly the tile backer board kits — are well within the capability of a competent DIYer with tiling experience. The tray former and waste installation are straightforward provided the subfloor is level and the former is correctly bonded and waterproofed before tiling. The critical requirement is correct waterproofing at all joints, perimeter edges, and drain penetrations — this cannot be skipped or rushed. If in doubt, consult a professional tiler with wet room experience.

What floor types can the tray formers be installed over?

Taurus tray formers are suitable for installation over solid concrete floors and suspended timber joist floors (with adequate decking rigidity). The former must be fully bonded using the Tray Former Installation Kit. On timber floors, ensure the decking is rigid and any deflection between joists is eliminated before installation — movement in the subfloor will crack tile adhesive and grout over time.

Do I need a separate tanking membrane over the tile backer boards?

The boards themselves are waterproof, and correctly taped and sealed joints complete the waterproof barrier without additional tanking. However, in high-exposure wet room applications — particularly where the entire floor is continuously saturated — applying a brush-applied tanking membrane over the boards before tiling is good practice and is required by some installer warranty schemes. The Tray Former Installation Kit includes the waterproofing membrane needed for the former itself.

Which linear drain finish should I choose?

The tileable drain cover is the most design-forward option — tiles are cut to fit the drain insert, making the drain virtually invisible in the floor. For a visible drain finish, choose a cover plate colour that matches your shower valve and bathroom hardware: chrome suits traditional and transitional bathrooms, brushed nickel and brushed brass coordinate with warm-toned metalwork, and matt black makes a deliberate design statement in contemporary wet rooms.

Are the Taurus products suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. The XPS core of both the tile backer boards and the tray formers is compatible with electric underfloor heating mats. The insulating properties of XPS also improve UFH efficiency by directing heat upward into the tile layer rather than downward into the subfloor. Lay UFH mats in the tile adhesive layer over the boards or former surface.
