Power Flushing Equipment & Chemicals | Kamco & Adey

Over time, central heating systems accumulate sludge, rust, scale, and debris that builds up inside radiators, pipework, and heat exchangers. This magnetite sludge — a black, iron oxide-rich deposit — is one of the leading causes of inefficient heating systems, cold spots on radiators, noisy boilers, pump failure, and premature system breakdowns. Power flushing is the professional solution for removing this contamination and restoring a heating system to clean, efficient operation.

What Is Power Flushing?

Power flushing is a deep-cleaning process that forces water and specialist cleaning chemicals through the heating system at high velocity and low pressure, dislodging and flushing out accumulated debris. A power flush machine connects directly into the system — typically via the pump head or a radiator valve — and circulates the flushing chemicals through every part of the circuit until the expelled water runs clean. Magnetic filtering captures iron particles during the process, and the system is finally dosed with corrosion inhibitor to protect against future contamination.

It's a procedure typically carried out by heating engineers before commissioning a new boiler onto an existing system, when a system shows signs of sludge contamination, or as part of a planned maintenance programme to extend system life.

Kamco — The Industry Standard in Power Flushing

Kamco is the most widely recognised name in power flushing in the UK and the equipment of choice for professional heating engineers. Their Clearflow range of power flushing machines are built for demanding day-to-day use, combining high flow rates with powerful magnetic filtration to remove even heavily contaminated systems efficiently. Robust, reliable, and backed by strong UK support, Kamco machines are the benchmark against which other flushing equipment is measured.

Adey — System Protection Chemicals

Adey's Magnacleanse system and ProFlush chemical range complement power flushing equipment with a comprehensive set of pre-flush cleaners, descalers, and corrosion inhibitors designed to work together as a complete system treatment programme. Their MC1+ Inhibitor and MC3+ Cleaner are among the most widely specified products in the industry, trusted by heating engineers and boiler manufacturers alike — with many boiler warranties requiring an approved inhibitor to be dosed at commissioning. Adey also produce the well-known MagnaClean magnetic filter range, ideal for ongoing system protection after a flush has been completed.

When Is a Power Flush Needed?

A power flush is worth considering if your system shows any of the following signs: radiators that are cold at the bottom but warm at the top, slow system warm-up times, frequent bleeding required on radiators, discoloured water when bleeding, a noisy or overheating boiler, or recurring pump failures. It is also strongly recommended — and in many cases required by the boiler manufacturer — when fitting a new boiler to an existing pipework system, to avoid new components being contaminated by existing debris.
