Square Waste Drain 8 Sizes 30mm Height Corner Drain End Drain Centre Drain Timber & Screeded Floors
The Taurus Wet Room Square Waste Tray Former is a 30mm level-access XPS (hard foam) shower floor base designed to create a fully tiled, flush-to-floor wet room shower area. Unlike a traditional shower tray, the tray former is tiled over once installed, becoming completely invisible beneath the floor finish and blending seamlessly with the bathroom floor. The square waste drain produces a four-directional fall to a central or corner waste point — water flows inward from all four edges of the tray towards the drain, giving a symmetrical drainage pattern ideal for large-format tiles and open-plan wet room designs.
Available in 8 sizes ranging from 800×800mm up to 1800×900mm, each size is available with a choice of drain position — Corner, Centre, or Offset — depending on the size and the layout requirements of your bathroom. Select your size and drain position using the variant selectors above. The tray former is a tray-only product; it does not include the square waste trap, installation kit, or waterproofing materials (all available separately from Taurus).

Drain Position Guide — Corner, End, or Centre?
The drain position determines where the square waste sits within the tray former, which in turn determines how water flows across the tray surface and where the waste pipe exits beneath the floor. Choosing the right drain position depends on your bathroom layout, joist direction, and tiling preferences. All three types use the same square click-lock waste trap — it is the position of the trap within the tray that differs.
◼ Corner Drain
The square waste is positioned at one corner of the tray. The tray surface falls from all four edges diagonally towards that corner — a two-directional diagonal fall. Water from the entire tray surface drains to a single corner point.
- Available on: 800×800, 900×900, 1000×1000, 1200×1200
- Waste pipe exits at a corner — ideal where the waste pipe runs along two walls
- Visually discreet — drain is tucked away at the corner junction with the wall
- Popular for walk-in corner shower enclosures
◼ End Drain
The square waste is positioned at the centre of one short end of the tray. The tray surface falls in a single direction along the full tray length towards the drain at the end. A simple, single-direction fall.
- Available on: 1200×900, 1400×900, 1500×800, 1600×900, 1800×900
- Waste pipe exits at one short end of the tray — suits bathrooms where the pipe runs along the end wall
- Straightforward tiling — floor tiles follow a single fall direction
- Good choice for long rectangular layouts where the waste can be positioned at the entry end
◼ Centre Drain
The square waste is positioned at the geometric centre of the tray. The tray surface falls from all four edges symmetrically towards the central waste point — a four-directional fall. Water flows inward from every direction simultaneously.
- Available on: 1000×1000, 1200×1200, 1200×900, 1400×900, 1500×800, 1600×900, 1800×900
- Waste pipe exits directly below centre — requires a clear void beneath the mid-point of the tray
- Symmetrical appearance — suits large-format tiles and minimalist designs
- Ideal where no single wall edge is convenient for the waste pipe exit

Square Waste vs Linear Drain — Which Should I Choose?
Taurus offers both square waste tray formers (this product) and linear drain tray formers. The choice affects the appearance of the finished floor, the tiling approach, and the waste pipe routing:
| Feature | Square Waste Former | Linear Drain Former |
|---|---|---|
| Visible drain element | Small square or rectangular grate — discreet | Long metal strip across tray width — a visible design feature |
| Fall direction | Four-way (centre/corner) or single-direction (end) | Single-direction (end) or two-direction (offset) |
| Tiling complexity | Four-way fall requires mitred or cut tiles; single-fall is straightforward | Single fall is simplest; allows large uncut tile formats |
| Waste pipe position | Corner, end, or centre of tray | Along short end or long side (offset) |
| Best suited to | Smaller square showers; corner installations; traditional wet room layouts | Contemporary bathrooms; large-format tiles; longer rectangular spaces |
| Available drain finishes | Stainless steel, tileable, designer grate | Stainless steel, tileable, coloured finishes (Matt Black, Anthracite, Bronze) |
Key Features
💡 Tray Former vs Full Kit — What's the Difference?
This product is the tray former only — the XPS foam tray base with pre-formed falls and drain socket. It does not include the waste trap, installation adhesives, waterproofing tape and compound, or tile backer boards. A full Taurus wet room square waste installation kit (sold separately) includes the tray former plus all the installation consumables needed for a complete wet room floor installation. If you are starting a new wet room installation from scratch, the full kit is recommended to ensure you have all required components in one order.
⚠️ Drain Position and Waste Pipe Planning — Read Before Ordering
The drain position determines exactly where beneath the tray the waste pipe will connect. For corner drain trays, the waste pipe exits from under a corner of the tray — ensure joist notching or drilling is planned for that corner position. For end drain trays, the pipe exits from under the centre of one short end. For centre drain trays, the pipe exits from directly beneath the middle of the tray — this requires that a clear void or notched joist exists under the tray centre point. Confirm your floor structure and waste pipe routing with your plumber or contractor before ordering to ensure the correct drain position variant is selected for your installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install this tray former directly on existing timber floorboards?
Not recommended without over-boarding first. Existing floorboards can flex under foot load, which will stress the tile adhesive and grout over time and may crack tiles. It is strongly recommended to over-board the existing floor with 10mm Taurus tile backer board (rigid XPS or cement board) before laying the tray former. This provides a firm, moisture-resistant substrate and prevents flex. On solid concrete or screeded floors, the tray former can be bedded directly.
What size tiles work best with a centre drain tray former?
Centre drain trays have a four-directional fall from all four edges to the centre point. This means tiles will need to be cut at an angle (mitred) where they meet the diagonal fall lines — particularly on square tiles. Large-format tiles (600×600mm or larger) tend to show the fall across the tile face more visibly with a four-way fall, which some designers consider aesthetically pleasing. Smaller tiles (e.g. 300×300mm mosaics) are easier to fit around a four-way fall without complex cutting. For a simpler installation, the end drain variant (single-direction fall) is generally easier to tile and allows larger uncut tile formats.
I have a 900×900mm space — should I choose corner or centre drain?
The 900×900 tray former is available with corner drain only (not centre drain). For square sizes 1000×1000 and 1200×1200, both corner and centre drain options are available. The corner drain for a 900×900 tray keeps the waste pipe tucked against the wall intersection, which is typically more convenient for waste pipe routing and leaves the shower floor centre clear. If you specifically need a centre drain in a 900×900 space, this is not available in the standard Taurus range — a custom tray would be required.
Can the tray former be cut down on site?
Yes — the XPS tray former can be trimmed with a standard hand saw or fine-tooth jigsaw. When trimming, always take equal amounts from opposite edges to maintain the symmetry of the pre-formed falls and preserve the drain position at the correct geometric centre or corner. Never cut from one side only, as this will shift the fall angle and may cause the drain to sit off-centre or at an incorrect height relative to the tile surface.
What is the difference between the tray former and a full wet room kit?
This product is the tray former base only — the XPS foam tray with pre-formed falls and drain socket. A full Taurus wet room installation kit (sold separately) includes the tray former plus all the installation consumables: the square waste trap and grate, Fix-KST bedding adhesive, Pro-Seal waterproofing compound and primer, waterproofing tape, internal corner pieces, tile guide, notched trowel, and protective gloves. If you are buying the tray former only here, you will need to source all installation consumables separately. The full kit is the more convenient option for a complete first-time installation.
What square waste grate options are available?
The square click-lock waste trap is compatible with three grate types, all sold separately: the standard stainless steel grate (included in the full kit), a tileable grate (allows a tile offcut to be set in the grate for a fully concealed drain — suitable for tile and adhesive of at least 13mm combined), and a designer stainless steel grid grate with hex-key security fixing (suitable for commercial installations or where a more decorative finish is required).
