7.4kW / 32A Single-Phase Integrated PEN Fault Protection UK Regulation Compliant Wi-Fi + 4G LTE-M Lifetime Free 5-Year Guarantee IP54 Indoor & Outdoor
The Zaptec Go 7.4kW is the UK-specific version of Zaptec's award-winning home EV charger — engineered in Norway and built for British conditions. This model includes fully integrated PEN fault protection as standard, meeting the legal requirement for outdoor EV charger installations connected to PME (Protective Multiple Earth) supplies under BS 7671:2018 Amendment 1:2020 clause 722.411.4.1 (iv). No earth rod, no external PEN fault device, and no GARO/Matte:e unit needed — PEN protection is built in, independently tested, and always active. Pair that with integrated RDC-DD 6mA residual current protection, dual Wi-Fi and free lifetime 4G LTE-M connectivity, RFID access control, smart scheduling via the Zaptec app, and a compact form factor just 242mm tall and 1.3kg — and the Zaptec Go stands alone as one of the most capable, future-proof home chargers available in the UK.
Why the Zaptec Go?
Connectivity and Smart Features
The Zaptec Go connects via Wi-Fi 2.4GHz (802.11 b/g/n) and 4G LTE-M, with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 4.2) for local pairing and setup. Both Wi-Fi and 4G are active simultaneously — the charger uses whichever connection is strongest, providing a resilient, always-online setup that doesn't depend on your home broadband. The 4G LTE-M connection is provided free by Zaptec for the entire lifetime of the charger, with no SIM card to insert and no monthly data charges.
All smart features are managed through the Zaptec App (iOS and Android), which provides:
- Start/stop charging remotely from anywhere
- Live charging status and session monitoring
- Full charging history and energy usage data (~3% accuracy via integrated energy meter)
- Manual charge scheduling — set charging windows to align with off-peak tariff times
- Eco Mode — automated scheduling using Nord Pool electricity price data (requires variable/dynamic tariff)
- Cable lock control — permanently lock the Type 2 cable to the charger via the app
- RFID tag management — add, remove, and manage RFID access cards and fobs
- Access sharing — grant charging access to other users (family, fleet drivers, guests)
- Push notifications for charging events, completed sessions, and fault alerts
- Remote firmware update management
The Zaptec Portal provides a cloud-based management interface for multi-charger environments — monitoring all chargers in real time, viewing per-unit energy consumption breakdowns, and managing user access across a portfolio of locations. Particularly relevant for fleet operators, housing developers, and commercial property managers.
For third-party integration, the Zaptec Go supports OCPP 1.6J cloud-to-cloud communication, plus REST API and Webhooks for custom software integration. Documentation is available at zaptec.com/ocpp.
Eco Mode — Automated Cheap-Rate Charging
Eco Mode uses historical electricity price data from the Nord Pool market to automatically identify the cheapest charging windows and schedule charging accordingly. In Eco Mode, you simply plug in your vehicle and activate the mode — the Zaptec Go determines when to charge based on price data, with options to set a departure time and minimum energy required. This means the vehicle will be charged to the required level in time for departure, using the cheapest electricity available overnight. Eco Mode works best with variable or dynamic electricity tariffs (such as Octopus Agile or similar) where prices genuinely vary hour-by-hour. For single flat-rate tariffs, manual scheduling to the off-peak window is the more effective approach.
Zaptec Sense — Optional Load Balancing
The Zaptec Go is compatible with Zaptec Sense, an optional energy monitoring unit fitted in the consumer unit that measures total household electricity consumption in real time. When Zaptec Sense is installed, the Zaptec Go automatically adjusts its charging speed based on the available headroom in the property's total electrical supply — preventing the main fuse from tripping when high household loads (electric ovens, showers, heat pumps) coincide with EV charging. Zaptec Sense is available separately for 1-phase, 3-phase 150A, and 3-phase 600A installations.
LED Status Ring — At-a-Glance Charger Status
The Zaptec Go has a distinctive RGBW LED ring positioned directly above the Type 2 socket. The LED provides instant at-a-glance status information:
| LED Colour / Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| White (steady) | Ready — charger connected and waiting for EV to be plugged in |
| Blue (pulsing) | Charging in progress |
| Green (steady) | Charging complete |
| Yellow / Amber | Warning — check Zaptec app for details |
| Red (steady) | Fault detected — including PEN fault trigger; check app for details |
| Purple / Violet | Updating firmware or configuration |
| Off / Dark | No power or deep sleep mode |
Colour Options — One Charger, Six Colours
The Zaptec Go body and colour fascia are available in six colours. The core charger unit is the same across all colours; colour variant part numbers are listed in the product header comment above. All colours are finished in a matte UV-resistant coating suited for outdoor installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Zaptec Go need a separate PEN fault protection device?
No. PEN fault protection is fully integrated into the UK 7kW Zaptec Go as a standard factory-fitted feature. No external device (such as a GARO GLB1, Matte:e unit, or separate RCD-DD) is required for PEN fault protection. This is the legal requirement for outdoor EV charger installations on PME supplies (BS 7671:2018 Amendment 1:2020 clause 722.411.4.1 (iv)), and the Zaptec Go meets it independently.
Does the Zaptec Go need a Type B RCD?
No. The Zaptec Go includes an integrated RDC-DD 6mA DC residual current device (per IEC 62955), which performs the DC fault detection function that would otherwise require a more expensive Type B RCD. The installation only requires a standard 30mA Type A RCD and a maximum 40A circuit breaker in the consumer unit.
How do I know if I have the UK PEN fault version?
The UK PEN fault version is identified by a serial number beginning with ZGBxxxxxx, printed on the label on the body of the charger. This is the version described on this page. If you are unsure, contact Zaptec support at help.zaptec.com or call 0808 175 4780.
Does the 4G connection cost anything?
No. The 4G LTE-M connectivity is provided by Zaptec free of charge for the entire lifetime of the charger. There is no SIM card to insert, no monthly data cost, and no subscription required for the 4G connection. Smart features and OTA updates work over both Wi-Fi and 4G simultaneously.
Can I install three Zaptec Go chargers at the same property?
Yes — up to three Zaptec Go units can be installed at a single property, with intelligent load sharing between them managed via the Zaptec system. This is useful for households with multiple EVs, or for small commercial sites. For larger multi-charger installations, the Zaptec Pro is a better fit.
Is the Zaptec Go OZEV / LEVI grant eligible?
OZEV grant eligibility and the relevant scheme (LEVI, EVHS, or similar) may change over time. At the time of writing, the Zaptec Go meets the technical requirements for applicable OZEV domestic grants. Confirm current grant eligibility and claim process with your OZEV-registered installer and via the OZEV website before purchase, as eligibility criteria are updated periodically.
Can I use the Zaptec Go with Octopus Intelligent or other smart tariffs?
The Zaptec Go can be used to charge on cheap-rate overnight tariffs such as Octopus Go, Economy 7, or similar by scheduling charging to the relevant off-peak window using the Zaptec app. For fully automated smart tariff integration (where the energy supplier directly controls the charger), Octopus Intelligent currently requires specific charger models on their approved list — check Octopus's current compatibility list before purchasing if this automated integration is a priority. Manual scheduling via the Zaptec app is available on all tariffs.
Can the Zaptec Go be installed indoors (garage) as well as outdoors?
Yes — the IP54 rating and IK8 impact protection mean the Zaptec Go is fully rated for both indoor and outdoor installation. The PEN fault protection requirement under BS 7671 clause 722.411.4.1 applies to outdoor installations on PME supplies; having PEN protection built in means the same charger can be installed outdoors on a PME network or indoors without any change to the unit or additional components.
What is the guarantee and what does it cover?
The Zaptec Go comes with a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee — one of the longest in the home EV charger market. The guarantee covers manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use. Remote diagnostics and firmware updates are provided via the Zaptec Portal for the lifetime of the charger. For support, contact Zaptec's UK customer support line on 0808 175 4780 or via help.zaptec.com.
PEN Fault Protection — Technical Note
This UK model (serial prefix ZGBxxxxxx) includes integrated open PEN fault protection as standard, complying with BS 7671:2018 Amendment 1:2020 clause 722.411.4.1 (iv) — the legal requirement for outdoor EV chargers on PME (Protective Multiple Earth) supplies. No external protection device (GARO, Matte:e, etc.) is needed. The charger also includes an integrated RDC-DD 6mA per IEC 62955, so no Type B RCD is required in the consumer unit — only a standard 30mA Type A RCD and max 40A circuit breaker.
The protection continuously monitors line-to-neutral voltage and disconnects the vehicle if it detects a fault (above 253V or below 207V rms for more than 5 seconds). The LED ring turns red, charging stops, and the Zaptec app shows a notification. Once stable voltage returns for 30 seconds, the charger resumes automatically. If a PEN fault is confirmed, call your DNO on 105. An independent test report is available from Zaptec on request.
