10,000 VA / 8,000 W 48 V DC 140 A Charger 2× AC Input VE.Bus Parallel & 3-Phase Ready Lithium Compatible Victron Energy
The Victron Quattro 48V/10000VA/140A-100/100 230V VE.Bus is Victron's flagship mid-range inverter-charger — a single unit combining a 10 kVA pure sine wave inverter, a 140 A adaptive battery charger, and a dual AC input transfer switch in one robust aluminium enclosure. Unlike the MultiPlus, the Quattro accepts two independent AC inputs (for example, grid + generator, or two generators) and connects automatically to whichever source is active. With PowerControl and PowerAssist technology it manages generator or grid current limits intelligently — never drawing more than permitted and boosting from battery when peak demand exceeds the available AC source. Up to 6 units can be operated in parallel for 54 kW / 60 kVA output; three units can be configured for three-phase operation. VE.Bus communication provides seamless integration with the full Victron ecosystem — GX devices, VRM remote monitoring, Venus OS, ESS, and all Victron accessories. Compatible with all battery chemistries including lead-acid, gel, AGM, OPzS, and lithium (LiFePO₄).

Key Capabilities
- ✓Two independent AC inputs with automatic transfer switch — connect grid on AC-in-1 and a generator on AC-in-2; Quattro automatically selects the live input, prioritising as configured. Transfer time <20 ms — computers and sensitive equipment continue without disruption
- ✓Two AC outputs — AC-out-1 is the main no-break output (always live from battery when no AC input present); AC-out-2 is live only when an AC input is present, ideal for non-critical loads like water heaters or air conditioning that should not discharge the battery
- ✓PowerControl — set a maximum current draw limit on each AC input independently. The Quattro reduces charger current automatically to ensure the generator or shore connection is never overloaded, regardless of battery state
- ✓PowerAssist — when load exceeds available AC input capacity (e.g. a kettle on a small generator), the Quattro instantly supplements from the battery bank. The user experiences no interruption and the generator is not overloaded
- ✓140 A adaptive battery charger — adaptive multi-stage charging (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with automatic adjustment based on battery discharge history. Supports gel, AGM, OPzS tubular plate, traction, and lithium batteries. Absorption time auto-calculated per cycle
- ✓True sine wave inverter output, 10,000 VA / 8,000 W continuous at 25°C — 6,500 W continuous at 40°C ambient. 20,000 W peak power. Suitable for all loads including motors, compressors, air conditioning, and sensitive electronics
- ✓VE.Bus communication — the industry standard Victron communication bus for multi-unit parallel and three-phase stacking, system configuration via VE.Configure / VE.Bus Quick Configure, and integration with all GX devices (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, Venus GX)
- ✓Up to 6 units in parallel — six Quattro 48/10000/140 units provide 54 kW / 60 kVA output power and 840 A combined charging capacity. Three-unit three-phase sets can also be paralleled: up to 4 sets (12 units total) for 108 kW / 120 kVA three-phase
- ✓3 programmable relays — configurable for general alarm, DC undervoltage, generator start/stop, or custom logic via Assistants software
- ✓2 general-purpose communication ports — for BMS communication (lithium batteries), external current sensor, temperature sensor, or digital input/output
- ✓Remote on/off — hardware remote control input for external switching of the inverter and charger independently
- ✓AES (Automatic Energy Saving) mode — reduces no-load power consumption from 60 W to 40 W by monitoring output voltage. Search mode reduces to 15 W (suitable for loads ≥50 W)
- ✓ESS (Energy Storage System) compatible — configure as a grid-tied ESS with self-consumption, peak shaving, feed-in, or zero-feed-in modes via Venus OS / Cerbo GX and VRM portal
- ✓VRM remote monitoring — free cloud portal at vrm.victronenergy.com; real-time data, alarms by email/push notification, remote configuration, and firmware updates when connected via a GX device with internet access
- ✓VictronConnect app — Bluetooth configuration and monitoring via the VE.Bus Smart Dongle (sold separately); no laptop required for basic commissioning
- ✓Battery temperature sensor included — compensates absorption/float voltages for ambient temperature to prevent under- or over-charging
- ✓Lithium battery compatible — full integration with Victron and third-party BMS via the communication ports; supports lithium charge profiles and BMS-controlled charge/discharge limits
- ✓Anti-islanding protection — Loss of Mains detection software available for grid-connected applications; country-specific anti-islanding certificates available (see certifications section)

Frequently Asked Questions
QWhat is the difference between the Quattro and the MultiPlus?
The core difference is that the Quattro has two AC inputs with an integrated automatic transfer switch, while the MultiPlus has only one. This makes the Quattro ideal for systems where both a grid connection and a generator are present — the Quattro automatically selects the live input. The MultiPlus is sufficient where only one AC source is used. Both share the same inverter core, charger, PowerControl/PowerAssist, VE.Bus, parallel/three-phase capability, and Victron ecosystem compatibility.
QWhat battery bank size do I need for a 10 kVA Quattro?
There is no single correct answer — it depends on the application, required autonomy, depth of discharge, and battery chemistry. As a practical guideline for a 48 V LiFePO₄ system: a minimum of 200 Ah (9.6 kWh usable at 80% DoD) is typically appropriate for backup or off-grid use with the 10 kVA Quattro. For ESS applications with frequent cycling, 200–400 Ah is common. The maximum DC input current is 235 A, so ensure battery cables and BMS are rated accordingly. Contact your Victron dealer for a system design.
QCan I use this Quattro in a UK grid-tied ESS (Energy Storage System)?
Yes. The Quattro 48/10000/140 holds a G99-1 certificate for ESS and can be used in UK grid-tied applications with a compatible GX device (Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX) running Venus OS and the ESS Assistant. Your installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician and notified to your DNO under G99 if export is intended. Zero-feed-in mode (no grid export) may be used to avoid a G99 application in some cases — confirm with your DNO and installer.
QHow do I configure parallel or three-phase operation?
Parallel and three-phase operation requires identical model Quattros, VE.Bus interconnection cables (RJ45 UTP), and configuration with the MK3-USB interface and VE.Bus Quick Configure or VE.Bus System Configurator software (both free downloads from victronenergy.com). A GX device is strongly recommended for ongoing monitoring of multi-unit installations. Follow Victron's official parallel and three-phase wiring guidelines precisely — incorrect wiring can damage units.
QWhat is VE.Bus and do I need a special cable?
VE.Bus is Victron's proprietary communication bus for inverter-chargers. It uses a standard RJ45 UTP cable (the same as an Ethernet patch cable — Cat5e or better). The VE.Bus port on the Quattro connects to: other Quattros (parallel/three-phase), GX devices (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX), the MK3-USB PC interface, and the Digital Multi Control Panel. No specialist cable is required beyond a standard RJ45 patch cable.
QDoes the Quattro work with lithium (LiFePO₄) batteries?
Yes. The Quattro is lithium battery compatible and supports LiFePO₄ batteries from Victron (Victron LiFePO₄ Smart) and many third-party manufacturers. For safe operation with lithium batteries, the BMS must be able to communicate a charge/discharge enable signal to the Quattro via one of the two general-purpose communication ports (or via a GX device). The lithium charge profile (absorption voltage, float voltage, charge current limit) must be configured via VE.Configure. Do not use lithium batteries with this inverter without a compatible BMS.
QCan I monitor and control the Quattro remotely?
Yes, with a GX device (Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX) connected via VE.Bus and to the internet. The free VRM portal (vrm.victronenergy.com) provides real-time data, historical graphs, alarms by email or push notification, and full remote configuration and firmware update capability from any browser or the VRM app (iOS/Android). Without a GX device, local Bluetooth monitoring is possible via the VE.Bus Smart Dongle and VictronConnect app, but no remote access.
QWhat is the no-load power consumption?
In standard mode: 60 W. In AES (Automatic Energy Saving) mode: 40 W — the Quattro monitors output voltage and adjusts accordingly. In Search mode: 15 W — the inverter pulses briefly to detect a load; suitable if your standby loads are consistently above ~50 W. Search mode is not suitable for sensitive electronics or loads that require an always-live sine wave output.
