The Verplas VFD6/10INS is a 150mm diameter insulated flexible aluminium hose in a 10-metre roll, designed for use in mechanical ventilation systems where thermal insulation and sound attenuation are required alongside flexibility. The multi-layer construction combines an inner aluminium spiral hose with an acoustic insulation jacket, making it ideal for loft-run connections in MVHR systems, sound-sensitive rooms, and installations passing through cold spaces.

Primary Application
Insulated vs Standard Flex: Use the VFD6/10INS (insulated) where the duct passes through cold, unheated spaces (loft voids, cold roof voids) to prevent condensation and heat loss. Use standard PVC flex (VFD6/3) for short connections in heated spaces.
Compression Warning: Like all flexible duct, the insulated hose must be installed fully extended to maintain rated airflow and insulation performance. Compression reduces both airflow capacity and thermal/acoustic effectiveness significantly.

Acoustic Insulation Jacket
The outer insulation layer provides both thermal resistance and acoustic attenuation — reducing both heat loss through the duct wall and the transmission of fan and airflow noise.
Inner Aluminium Spiral Hose
The corrugated aluminium inner hose is more durable and airtight than PVC flex, suitable for higher operating temperatures and more demanding ventilation system specifications.
10-Metre Roll
A 10m roll provides sufficient length for full flexible loft runs or multiple shorter connections, reducing the number of joints required in the installation.
MVHR Loft Connections
The primary application is MVHR semi-rigid loft distribution runs where the insulated flex connects the MVHR unit to rigid duct branches in a cold loft void.
Condensation Prevention
The insulation jacket maintains the duct wall temperature above the dew point of the air inside, preventing condensation formation on the inside and outside of the duct in cold spaces.
Flexible Routing
Despite the insulation jacket, the hose remains sufficiently flexible to route around loft obstacles including trusses and purlins without requiring rigid bends.

How much acoustic attenuation does the insulated hose provide?
The acoustic jacket provides meaningful sound reduction compared to uninsulated duct — the exact figure depends on installation length and frequency. Consult the product datasheet for measured attenuation data. For maximum noise reduction, use a duct silencer (SIL150) in addition.
Can I cut the 10m roll into shorter lengths?
Yes — cut the hose to the required length using tin snips or strong scissors. Ensure cut ends are clean and the insulation jacket is not left loose; tape the insulation layer end if needed.
Is this suitable for use with a tumble dryer exhaust?
No — tumble dryer exhausts typically exceed 60°C and carry lint. Use only manufacturer-approved tumble dryer ducting for this application.
Do I need to seal the connection to rigid fittings?
Slide the hose over the male spigot and secure with a worm-drive clip (DIY674). In MVHR or high-spec installations, tape the joint with approved aluminium duct tape after clipping for added airtightness.
