The ThermoSphere Membrane Mat is a heating, decoupling and waterproofing mat for tile and stone floors, designed to be used with the ThermoSphere Ultimate heating cable. The stud pattern locks the cable at two spacings: 2-stud = 195W/m² (wet rooms and high-demand areas) or 3-stud = 130W/m² (primary heating in well-insulated rooms). Just 5.5mm thick. Available as fleece-backed (all substrates) or self-adhesive (plywood/OSB — no adhesive required, saves 3mm). Decouples tiles from the subfloor to prevent cracking and delamination. Waterproofing properties ideal for wet rooms when combined with tanking. Lifetime warranty on registration.

The stud structure creates a decoupling layer that neutralises lateral stress from differential expansion and contraction between the tile finish and subfloor. Particularly important on timber, anhydrite screed and partially cured substrates. Rated extra heavy use in the Robinson Test.

What cable should I use with this membrane?
Designed for ThermoSphere Ultimate heating cable. Ultimate's in-line joint requires no membrane cuts, keeping waterproofing intact. Other cables can be used but may require cuts that compromise waterproofing.
Fleece-backed vs self-adhesive — which do I choose?
Fleece-backed suits any flat, firm substrate (concrete, screed, timber, tile backer) using flexible tile adhesive. Self-adhesive is peel-and-stick — for flat, clean, dry plywood or OSB only. Self-adhesive saves 3mm floor height and needs no curing time.
Can I tile directly over the system?
Yes — tiles go directly over cable and membrane with flexible tile adhesive. No levelling compound needed.
Is this suitable for floors other than tile?
No — the Membrane Mat is for tile and stone floors only. For wood, carpet or vinyl, use ThermoSphere Foil.
