The Stuart Turner Pulse 40/100-F220 (part no. 47416) is a single-head, cast iron flanged commercial circulator for hot-water heating, air-conditioning and ventilation systems. It constantly measures pressure and flow and adjusts its speed through an onboard controller, with an EEI of just 0.20.
With 10.5 m maximum head and up to 11.8 m³/h flow, the 40/100-F220 is built for longer or higher-resistance circuits — multi-storey heating risers, extensive commercial radiator networks and systems with significant index-circuit pressure loss.
Built around ECM permanent magnet technology, a canned rotor and carbon-graphite bearings, it has a 220 mm fitted length and DN40 combination flanges for PN6 or PN10 pipework. Choose between automatic, proportional pressure, constant pressure and constant speed modes, with automatic night set-back to cut consumption when heating demand drops.
Good to Know
If your system needs more flow and less head, the Pulse 40/80-F220 (47415) delivers 12.3 m³/h at up to 8.4 m in the identical 220 mm DN40 body, so the two are interchangeable on the same flanges.
Installation Note
Because of the combined PN6/PN10 flange design, washers must be used on the pump side when bolting up. The box contains the pump with EPS insulation cover, a wiring kit and a lubricant sachet — counter-flanges, gaskets and bolts are not included.
Water Quality & Warranty
System water must meet VDI 2035 quality and be free of solids and fibrous particles. Stuart Turner recommends a magnetite filter: bearing, rotor-can or seized-rotor failures caused by magnetic particles are not covered by warranty. This cast iron pump is not intended for potable hot water circulation.
Safety & Regulations
Electrical installation must be carried out by a qualified person to BS 7671, and the pump must be earthed via the supply cord. Never run the pump dry, do not exceed 10 bar system pressure, and keep the supply cord away from the motor shell, pump body and pipework — the motor casing can become very hot in normal operation.
Key Features
Five operating modes
Automatic (factory default), proportional pressure with adjustable HQ% (default 50%), constant pressure and constant speed, plus a night mode that works alongside them.
Automatic night set-back
When the pump senses a 15–20°C drop in medium temperature within 2 hours, it switches to night mode, then returns to the chosen mode as temperature rises.
ECM permanent magnet motor
Canned permanent magnet rotor with variable speed control, continuously rated (S1) and ErP compliant with an EEI of 0.20.
Built-in protection
Integrated over-current, temperature and over-voltage protection — no additional thermal protection switch is required.
LED display & keypad lock
The LED display panel shows parameters and error codes, with operation lock and one-step factory reset.
Installer-friendly design
Automatic venting cycle, rotatable pump head, EPS insulation shell supplied and a plug-in wiring connector with audible latch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Pulse 40/100-F220 the right size for my system?
It delivers up to 10.5 m head and 11.8 m³/h flow. Size it against your system's design flow rate and index-circuit pressure loss; start in automatic mode and the pump will find its optimal operating point.
Will it fit PN6 or PN10 flanges?
Both. The combined flange design suits PN6 or PN10 pipelines — washers must be fitted on the pump side when bolting up.
What is included in the box?
The pump with EPS insulation cover, a wiring kit (connector housing, terminal block, seals, gland and tool) and a lubricant sachet. Counter-flanges, gaskets and bolts are supplied separately.
How should it be installed?
The motor axis must be horizontal, following the flow arrow on the housing. For minimal noise, allow at least 5 pipe diameters of straight pipe either side. The head can be rotated after removing four screws. Fill and purge the system before first run.
Can I use it for domestic hot water circulation?
No — this is a cast iron HVAC circulator. Stuart Turner's Pulse B bronze versions are the ones designated for secondary or potable hot water.
What does an E10 error mean?
E10 indicates low motor load — the pump is running dry. Other codes cover over-temperature (E22/E23), over- and under-voltage (E25/E26) and motor protection; full details are in the installation manual.
