The Stuart Turner Monsoon Professional (Part No. 47729) is a variable speed centrifugal multistage booster pump designed to deliver consistent water pressure and high flow to every outlet in the home — even when multiple taps, showers, and appliances are in use simultaneously. Boosting from a cold-water storage tank, it delivers up to 4.2 bar and 78 litres per minute, with pressure maintained automatically by an intelligent combination of pressure transducer, flow sensor, and integral expansion vessel. The permanent magnet variable-frequency motor reduces speed when demand is lower, keeping operation extremely quiet at a typical 55 dB(A) and cutting energy consumption compared to fixed-speed alternatives. Built-in protections against dry running, overheating, anti-freeze, and overloading make it a fit-and-forget solution, backed by a 5-year warranty and WRAS approval.

⚡ System Suitability — Cold Water Tank / Gravity-Fed Systems
The Monsoon Professional is designed to boost from a cold-water storage tank (header tank), making it suitable for vented hot water systems and properties where hot water is stored in a cylinder fed from a loft tank. It is not a mains booster pump — for direct mains boosting see the Stuart Turner STORMBOOST (47708) or Mainsboost range. The pump supports a suction lift of up to 6 metres with a foot-valve fitted.
⚠ Qualified Installation Required — Plumbing installation must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and be carried out by a qualified person. Electrical connection requires a 10A fused spur; a 30 mA RCD is recommended. Maximum static inlet pressure must not exceed 3 bar. Water temperature must not exceed 23°C — this pump is for cold and warm water only, not hot water direct from a cylinder.
Features & Benefits
✔ Variable Speed — Constant Pressure
Unlike fixed-speed pumps that run at full power whenever a tap is opened, the Monsoon Professional uses a permanent magnet variable-frequency motor controlled by a pressure transducer and flow sensor. It continuously adjusts pump speed to maintain the target pressure — delivering exactly the pressure needed whether one tap or four showers are running, without the pressure spikes and surges of on/off fixed-speed operation.
✔ Up to 78 L/min — Whole-Home Capacity
A maximum flow rate of 78 litres per minute provides sufficient capacity for simultaneous demand from multiple outlets across a large property — multiple showers, a bath filling, and kitchen tap all running at once. Most single-outlet shower pumps offer 12–20 L/min; the Monsoon Professional is a whole-home solution, not a single-outlet booster.
✔ 55 dB(A) — Extremely Quiet Operation
Typical noise level of 55 dB(A) at 1 metre — comparable to a quiet conversation — makes the Monsoon Professional suitable for installation in locations near living spaces. The variable speed motor further reduces noise at lower demand levels: when only one tap is open, the pump runs slower and quieter than when multiple outlets are active.
✔ Integral Expansion Vessel
The built-in expansion vessel works alongside the pressure transducer and flow sensor to provide smooth, stable pressure control and eliminates minor pressure fluctuations. It also allows the pump to supply very small flow demands (a trickling tap, a filling cistern) without the motor cycling on and off repeatedly — a common cause of noise and premature wear in pumps without integral vessels.
✔ 6 Metre Suction Lift (with foot-valve)
The ability to draw water from a tank up to 6 metres below the pump (with a foot-valve fitted) gives installers significant flexibility in pump positioning — the pump does not need to be at or below tank level. This is particularly useful in loft-to-ground-floor installations where the tank is in the loft and the pump is fitted on a ground or first floor wall.
✔ Multistage Centrifugal Design
The multistage centrifugal architecture — using multiple impeller stages in series — achieves the high pressures (up to 4.2 bar) that gravity-fed shower pump installations demand, while maintaining high efficiency at variable speeds. This design also produces lower noise levels than single-stage peripheral pumps of equivalent output, which is a key reason for the Monsoon Professional's 55 dB(A) rating.
✔ Full Protective Systems
Dry run protection shuts the pump down if water supply is interrupted; anti-freeze protection guards against low-temperature damage; overload and overtemperature protection prevent motor damage under demanding conditions. The integrated inlet strainer filters debris before it reaches the impeller, reducing the risk of blockage or wear. The anti-seize exercise function prevents impeller seizure during extended periods without use.
✔ Compact All-in-One Unit — Simple Installation
At 345 × 188 × 273 mm and just 8.04 kg, the Monsoon Professional is a self-contained unit with all sensors, controls, and vessel integrated — no separate control box or pressure vessel required. Universal G1" to 28mm/1" compression adaptors are supplied. The 1.5-metre pre-wired cable connects to a standard 10A fused spur.
✔ WRAS Approved — 5-Year Warranty
WRAS approval confirms the pump meets the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations for connection to the domestic water supply system. A 5-year warranty (subject to conditions) reflects Stuart Turner's confidence in the Monsoon Professional's durability — one of the longest warranties available on a residential shower booster pump in the UK market. UKCA and CE marked.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Monsoon Professional and a standard shower pump?
A standard shower pump (such as the Stuart Turner Showermate range) is designed to boost a single shower outlet — it connects between the hot and cold supplies and the shower head and switches on when the shower valve is opened. The Monsoon Professional is a whole-home booster pump — it connects to the cold-water storage tank and boosts the cold supply to the entire property's plumbing system, including hot water cylinder fill, all showers, baths, taps, and washing machine. This means every outlet benefits simultaneously, without the pressure drop that occurs when a single-outlet shower pump is used while other taps are open elsewhere.
Why is variable speed better than fixed speed for a whole-home booster pump?
A fixed-speed pump runs at full power whenever any tap opens — whether it's one tap trickling or four showers at full flow. This causes pressure surges when it switches on, unnecessary noise and energy consumption at low demand, and mechanical stress from repeated starts and stops. A variable-speed pump modulates its motor speed to deliver exactly the pressure the system needs at any given moment. When one tap is open, it runs slowly and quietly. When four outlets are active, it ramps to full speed. The result is steady, consistent pressure at all outlets, lower energy consumption, and longer pump life.
Can it boost hot water as well as cold?
The Monsoon Professional boosts the cold water supply from the storage tank. In a typical vented hot water system, this boosted cold supply feeds the hot water cylinder (which is then heated by the boiler or immersion heater), so the hot water drawn from the cylinder indirectly benefits from the boosted system — the cylinder fills faster and the balanced pressure improves at mixer showers and thermostatic taps. The pump must not be used to boost water at temperatures above 23°C — it is not designed for direct hot water boosting from a cylinder outlet.
Is it suitable for a property with a combi-boiler?
Yes — Stuart Turner specifically lists combi-boiler properties and pressurised hot water cylinders as ideal applications for the Monsoon Professional. In these properties, the Monsoon Professional boosts the cold water from the storage tank to the cold supply around the home, ensuring consistent cold pressure at all outlets. Combined with the combi boiler's own mains pressure hot water output, this can significantly improve the balance between hot and cold at mixer showers and thermostatic bath valves. If your property has no cold water tank at all (i.e. the cold supply goes directly from the mains to all outlets and the combi boiler), you would need a mains booster pump such as the STORMBOOST or Mainsboost instead.
