The Stäubli MC4-Evo 2 Fused Y-Connector, 20 A per string (32.0384, type PV-K-SPL-Y/2-ILF3-20/6/E-SSP) combines a Y-splitter with 20 A gPV string fuse protection in a single factory-assembled unit rated at 1500 V DC. It joins two PV strings in parallel into one output and gives each string overcurrent protection, replacing separate branch connectors and in-line fuses with one sealed component.
This is the SSP configuration: one plug and two sockets. The connections are crimped to 6 mm² cable with an 84 cm lead length, giving a long-lasting, stable connection with minimal energy loss and low heat generation. The vulcanised IP68 housing (1 m, 1 h when mated) uses PA, EVA and XLPE insulation with tin-plated copper contacts and a maximum contact resistance below 0.25 mΩ.
It is TÜV Rheinland certified to 2PfG 2380 and 2PfG 1913 with an 8 kV test voltage, safety class II and overvoltage category CAT III. The manufacturer states that the sum of the string fuse ratings must not exceed 53 A, so two 20 A strings (40 A in total) sit inside that limit.

Safety - isolate before you touch anything
Solar strings stay live whenever light falls on the modules. Never disconnect the unit under load and de-energise the PV system before mating or unmating any connector. Installation must be carried out by a competent person in line with BS 7671 (including Section 712) and the manufacturer's installation manual. Never reconnect a string without its in-line fuse if the fuse has been disconnected, never bypass it with a parallel line or another fuse, and never use a unit that is visibly damaged.
Connector gender - check before ordering
This part is the SSP version: 1 plug and 2 sockets. The manufacturer also lists the opposite arrangement as the PPS version: 1 socket and 2 plugs (32.0383). Check which connector gender your string ends and output cable use before ordering, so the Y-connector mates correctly.
Fuse total, mating connectors and temperature
Keep the sum of the string fuse ratings at or below 53 A and select the fuse rating in line with the applicable standards and your module's maximum series fuse rating. Mate only with original Stäubli MC4 or MC4-Evo 2 connectors, as the rated data depends on the mating connectors used. The ambient temperature range is -40°C to +50°C (upper limiting temperature 115°C), so allow for hot roofs and enclosed or bundled cable runs.
Accessories to note
Unmated connector ends should be protected with sealing caps: manufacturer order numbers 32.0716 (socket) and 32.0717 (plug). For MC4-Evo 2 connectors, the manufacturer's assembly and unlocking tool is the PV-MS-PLS (32.6058).
Key Features
Fuse-Protected Parallel Connection
Combines two strings into one output with 20 A gPV fuse protection per string, the primary function the manufacturer specifies for this product: parallel connection of PV strings with overcurrent protection.
Y-Splitter and Fuse in One
One sealed unit instead of a branch connector plus separate fuses means fewer connection points and less material, and a ready-to-use, factory-assembled design that removes the risk of incorrect on-site assembly.
1500 V DC Rated
1500 V DC rated voltage, 8 kV test voltage, safety class II and CAT III / pollution degree 3 for modern high-voltage arrays.
IP68 Vulcanised Housing
Rated IP65 / IP68 (1 m, 1 h) when mated and IP2X unmated, with PA, EVA and XLPE insulation designed for lasting protection against moisture and dust ingress.
Crimped, Low-Resistance Connections
Crimped connections on 6 mm² cable with tin-plated copper contacts and contact resistance below 0.25 mΩ keep energy loss and heat generation low.
Independently Certified
TÜV Rheinland certified to 2PfG 2380 and 2PfG 1913 (R 60163375 / R 60164319), with a gPV fuse link certified to IEC 60269-6.
Suitable For
Parallel Strings Needing Fuses
Arrays where the design requires overcurrent protection on strings connected in parallel.
1500 V DC Commercial and Ground-Mount Systems
Higher-voltage arrays built with MC4-Evo 2 connectors and 6 mm² string cable.
Neat, Compact Cable Runs
A single moulded unit keeps the cabling tidy and cuts the number of separate components to mount, route and seal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does "20 A per string" mean?
The unit connects strings in parallel with overcurrent protection for each string, and 20 A is the rated current of the gPV fuse link on a string. The manufacturer states that the sum of the string fuse ratings must not exceed 53 A, so two 20 A strings total 40 A and sit inside the limit.
What is the difference between the SSP and PPS versions?
It is the connector gender. This part (32.0384, SSP) has 1 plug and 2 sockets. The PPS version (32.0383) has 1 socket and 2 plugs. Check your string ends and output cable before ordering.
What fuse rating do I need for my solar panels?
As a commonly used design guide, choose a string fuse of at least 1.5 × the module short-circuit current (Isc) and no higher than the maximum series fuse rating on the module datasheet. A 20 A fuse suits modules with an Isc of up to roughly 13 A and a maximum series fuse rating of 20 A or more. Always confirm against your design, the module datasheet and the applicable standards.
Can I connect more than two strings with it?
This is a two-into-one Y connection. For larger parallel arrangements, design the string combining to suit the number of strings and the inverter inputs, and keep the total of the string fuse ratings within the manufacturer's 53 A limit.
Can I disconnect it under load or replace the fuse?
No to both. Never disconnect the unit under load: use your DC isolator to de-energise the system first. It is a sealed, factory-assembled product, and the manufacturer instructs that components must not be modified or repaired and that defective components are replaced.
Can I use it with other brands' MC4-style connectors?
No. The manufacturer states that only genuine Stäubli connectors may be mated with this product. Never connect Stäubli connectors to those of other manufacturers, because the current and voltage ratings depend on the mating connectors used.
