Description

The SolarEdge SE1000-SEN-TAMB-S2 is an outdoor ambient temperature sensor designed to connect to the SolarEdge Control and Communication Gateway (SE1000-CCG-G-S1) for environmental monitoring of commercial PV sites. Providing a 0–10V analogue output across a measurement range of –40°C to +90°C with 1% full-scale accuracy, it supplies real-time ambient temperature data used to calculate site performance ratio — enabling more accurate yield analysis and O&M diagnostics. Manufactured by IMT Solar (Ingenieurbüro Mencke & Tegtmeyer GmbH), the IMT part number is Ta-V-4090.

Why is ambient temperature monitoring useful for a solar site?

Panel output power is temperature-dependent — higher ambient temperatures reduce PV yield. Logging real-time ambient temperature alongside irradiance and actual generation allows the SolarEdge monitoring platform to calculate the site performance ratio (PR) — a standardised metric that removes the effect of irradiance and temperature variability, making it possible to compare actual yield against expected yield and identify underperforming strings or inverters.

Where should the sensor be installed?

Install the ambient temperature sensor in a shaded location near the array, protected from direct solar radiation, precipitation, and drainage from above. A north-facing position under a ventilated radiation shield is ideal. Direct sunlight will cause the sensor to read significantly higher than true ambient temperature, invalidating the performance ratio calculation. The sensor cable can be extended if required.

How many sensors can the Gateway support simultaneously?

The SolarEdge Control and Communication Gateway (SE1000-CCG-G-S1) can power and read up to 3 environmental sensors simultaneously. This allows a typical combination of irradiance, ambient temperature, and module temperature sensors to be connected to a single Gateway, covering the data inputs required for a full IEC-standard performance ratio assessment.
