The Salamander Temperature Protection Blending Valve is a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) designed to protect booster pumps fitted to systems where the stored domestic hot water temperature is uncontrolled, such as AGA cookers, solid fuel appliances or automatic boilers very crudely controlled by the boiler thermostat.
By automatically blending hot and cold water, the valve holds the temperature reaching the pump below the pump's limit even when the hot supply fluctuates. It arrives pre-set at 55 °C and comes complete with connectors for 22 mm compression, so it can be fitted without sourcing extra fittings. Manufacturer product code: ACCHWSTMV (trade code HWSTMV).

Pump temperature limit and installation regulations
Water passing through Salamander CT Xtra, CT Bathroom and CT Force pumps must not exceed 60 °C. Stored hot water must be controlled by an approved method such as a cylinder thermostat or thermostatic valve. Installation must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, and incorrect installation invalidates the pump warranty.
When you need one
The manufacturer's installation guide requires an approved HWS TMV where stored hot water temperature cannot be efficiently controlled, for example Aga or solid fuel appliances, solar panels, air source heat pumps or temperature controlled very crudely by the boiler thermostat.
Pump protection, not a point-of-use anti-scald valve
This valve is specified by the manufacturer to protect pumps from uncontrolled stored hot water. No TMV2 or TMV3 approval is stated, so it does not replace a thermostatic shower mixer or point-of-use TMV where one is required.
Pre-set temperature
The product page states the valve is pre-set at 55 °C. The pump installation guide labels its blending valve controller diagram as factory set at 55 to 60 °C. Check the valve outlet temperature at commissioning.
Key features
Protects booster pumps
Designed to protect pumps where stored domestic hot water temperature is uncontrolled, helping to keep the supply within the pump's 60 °C limit.
Thermostatic blending
Automatically blends hot and cold water to maintain a steady outlet temperature regardless of fluctuations in the hot supply.
Pre-set at 55 °C
Supplied factory pre-set at 55 °C and ready to fit.
22 mm compression connectors
Complete with connectors for 22 mm compression pipework, included in the box.
Suits uncontrolled heat sources
Specified for AGA, solid fuel appliances and boilers crudely controlled by the boiler thermostat, and required by the installation guide for solar and air source heat pump hot water where temperature cannot be controlled.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Salamander temperature protection blending valve do?
It is a thermostatic mixing valve that blends cold water into the stored hot supply so the temperature reaching the pump stays controlled. It is also described by the manufacturer as a valve to protect pumps fitted to systems where hot water temperature is uncontrolled.
Which systems need it?
Systems where stored hot water temperature cannot be efficiently controlled: Aga or solid fuel appliances, solar panels, air source heat pumps or boilers controlled only crudely by the boiler thermostat. In these cases the manufacturer's guide says an approved HWS TMV must be used.
What temperature is it set to?
It is supplied pre-set at 55 °C. CT Xtra, CT Bathroom and CT Force pumps have a maximum water temperature of 60 °C.
Is it an anti-scald valve for taps and showers?
No. It is specified to protect pumps, not as a point-of-use anti-scald device, and no TMV2 or TMV3 approval is stated. Use a suitably approved thermostatic mixer or TMV at the outlet where required.
What connections does it have?
It comes complete with connectors for 22 mm compression pipework.
Where can I get installation advice?
Follow the manufacturer's CT pump installation and warranty guide, which includes the HWS blending valve controller arrangement, and note the guide recommends usable cold water storage of at least 50 gallons per bathroom. The PumpWise technical helpline is available on 0191 516 2002.
