UV & Weather Proof Out of the Box
A flexible, factory-applied coating protects against sunlight, rain, frost and temperature swings, so installers can fit it in any weather with no painting on site.
Waterproof to Protect COP & SCOP
Wet insulation stops insulating. The waterproof coating and sealed-joint system keep moisture out of the foam, helping the heat pump hold its rated efficiency.
Cut, Mitre and Fit Any Fitting
Every length cuts and mitres on site for bends, tees and runs, and can be shaped around isolation valves and other external fittings.
Insulate Through the Wall
Designed to run through the fabric of the building, then sealed with Bond & Seal, so the pipework stays insulated right from the heat pump into the property.
Maintainable by Design
Easy to inspect at annual service and refresh with the water-based Maintenance Coat. The 22mm size shares the same clips and core bit as 28mm.
A Total-System Range
Elbows, valve jackets, sleeves, sealing rings, clips, back plates, joint covers, tools and coatings are engineered to work together, developed by installers for installers.
Match your pipe size to the components below. Every external pipe installation also needs Bond & Seal AS001, rubber-lined clips and a back plate.
These items are part of the Primary Pro range and are available alongside the insulation. Specifications are taken from the manufacturer's technical data sheets.

Why can't standard pipe lagging be used on external heat pump pipework?
External pipework is exposed to UV, rain, frost and temperature changes, and heat pump systems depend on the insulation staying dry. Moisture in insulation reduces its performance, and the manufacturer states that a 1% increase in moisture content can raise thermal conductivity by 7.5%. Primary Pro is supplied with a flexible waterproof, UV-protective coating and is sealed with Bond & Seal, addressing these weaknesses that ordinary foam lagging leaves open.
Do I need to seal the insulation to the heat pump itself?
Yes. The insulation-to-heat-pump connection should be sealed with Bond & Seal. Because the sealant stays flexible once cured, it takes up vibration from the unit and keeps moisture out. Apply plenty, smooth it off and cap the joint.
How much Bond & Seal do I need?
The manufacturer recommends a minimum of one 290ml tube per three 1m lengths of 28mm insulation, and more for larger sizes. Apply it between the insulation and the pipe and on the joint faces so it oozes out slightly when closed, then smooth and cap the outer joint. In cold weather (below 10°C) warm the tube in water for 20 minutes first.
How often does the insulation need recoating?
Recoating is now recommended as and when needed. Check the insulation and seals during the annual heat pump service and apply Maintenance Coat only if wear or discolouration is visible. Installations that are not south-facing may not need recoating within the first five years, and many installers also apply a coat after fitting to tidy brick dust and surface marks.
Can I change the colour of the insulation?
Yes. Primary Pro Over Coat is applied over the standard black finish so the pipework blends with brick, stone or render. It is available in Red Brick (PPOC01), Stone (PPOC02) and White (PPOC03).
Which clips and core bit go with 22mm insulation?
The 22mm insulation shares the same clips (AS008), wall sleeve (PS028), core bit (DC78) and sealing ring (AS35) as the 28mm size. Just remember the 22mm insulation has a slightly thicker 25mm wall, so trim the sleeve if required.
Is Primary Pro compatible with Intatec Intaflex flexible pipes?
Yes. Primary Pro was developed in collaboration with Intatec, and the valve jackets are designed for Intatec antifreeze and flat face lever valves on Intaflex installations. Bond & Seal can also seal the junction between Intaflex and the rigid Primary Pro insulation.
