The Panasonic PAW-AW-MBS-H (built by Intesis, also known as PA-AW2-MBS-1 / INMBSPAN001A000) is the Modbus RTU gateway for Panasonic Aquarea H Generation Hydro units, giving full bi-directional integration into Modbus RTU (EIA-485) building management networks. It connects directly to the Hydro unit and exposes the system's operating parameters — modes, setpoints, zone control, real-time status — to any Modbus-compatible BMS, SCADA, PLC or third-party controller.

Modbus vs Aquarea Smart Cloud — what's the difference?
Aquarea Smart Cloud (CZ-TAW1C/CZ-TAW2) is the consumer and installer-facing app platform for a single property. Modbus (PAW-AW-MBS-H) is the open-standard interface used where a third-party BMS, SCADA system or bespoke controller needs structured data access — typically for commercial buildings, multi-dwelling projects, or integration with an existing building automation system.
One Hydro unit per interface
Each PAW-AW-MBS-H connects to a single Hydro unit — for multi-unit installations, fit one interface per Hydro unit. Up to 63 PAW-AW-MBS-H devices can share the same Modbus RTU network.
Key features
Full bi-directional control and monitoring
Read real-time operating status and internal variables from the Hydro unit, and write control commands back — total supervision from the BMS or Modbus master device.
Compact, flexible mounting
At just 93 × 53 × 58 mm, the interface mounts on DIN rail, on a wall, or even inside the Hydro unit cabinet itself — fits neatly into most plant room layouts.
No external power required
Powered directly from the Hydro unit connection — no separate power supply or additional wiring run needed for the interface itself.
Up to two-zone support
Where the Hydro unit is configured for two independent heating zones, the interface exposes separate setpoint and status registers for each zone.
Dual configuration methods
Configure via on-board DIP switches for straightforward setups, or read and write configuration values directly over Modbus for more advanced integration.
Simultaneous remote controller operation
The Hydro unit's own remote controller continues to function alongside the Modbus interface — BMS integration doesn't lock out the standard on-site controls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Aquarea generation is this compatible with?
The PAW-AW-MBS-H is specified for H Generation Aquarea Hydro units. A separate interface (PAW-AW-MBS-1, without the H Generation compatibility) exists for other Aquarea platforms — confirm your specific Hydro unit generation before ordering.
Can I use both the remote controller and Modbus at the same time?
Yes — the interface allows simultaneous use of the Hydro unit's own remote controller and Modbus RTU control. BMS integration doesn't disable the standard on-site controls.
How many Hydro units can one interface control?
Each PAW-AW-MBS-H connects to one Hydro unit only. For multiple Hydro units on the same site, fit one interface per unit — up to 63 interfaces can share the same Modbus RTU network.
Does this need its own power supply?
No — the interface draws power directly from its connection to the Hydro unit, so no separate power supply or additional electrical run is needed.
Where can I mount the interface?
It's designed for flexible mounting — DIN rail, wall-mounted, or inside the Hydro unit cabinet itself — whichever suits your plant room layout best.
Do I need a terminator resistor on the Modbus network?
Yes — a 120Ω terminator resistor must be fitted at each end of the Modbus RTU bus to prevent signal reflections. The bus must be wired in a daisy-chain configuration; loop and star topologies are not supported.
