The Panasonic CU-TZ42CKE is a 4.2 kW cooling / 5.0 kW heating outdoor unit for single split air conditioning and heat pump systems. It pairs with one wall-mounted TZ super-compact indoor unit with nanoe X, making it a neat fit for bedrooms, home offices and other smaller spaces that need cooling in summer and efficient heating in winter.

Built around Panasonic’s R2 rotary compressor, the unit is designed to keep working in tough conditions, with a heating operating range down to -15°C and a cooling range up to 43°C. It uses R32 refrigerant with a low factory charge of just 0.79 kg, and its compact 780 × 542 × 289 mm casing weighs only 31 kg, which keeps wall-bracket and floor-stand installs straightforward.

Installers get 6.35 mm / 12.7 mm refrigerant connections, a 3–15 m pipe run, a supplied drain elbow and quiet running, with 49 dB(A) sound power in cooling and 51 dB(A) in heating at high speed. Suitable for domestic use.

Safety and regulatory

This unit contains R32 (A2L, mildly flammable refrigerant). Installation, servicing and refrigerant handling must only be carried out by trained, F-Gas certified personnel. Air purging is prohibited on R32 systems: the pipework must be evacuated with a vacuum pump and tightness tested with oxygen-free nitrogen. Electrical work must comply with BS 7671, and a 30 mA RCD is strongly recommended.

Compatibility and what is not included

This is the outdoor unit only. It must be paired with one compatible 4.2 kW wall-mounted TZ super-compact indoor unit (single split). The indoor unit, liquid and gas refrigerant pipework, the indoor/outdoor connection cable and any additional drain hose are not supplied and must be purchased separately. A drain elbow is included.

Which indoor unit does the CU-TZ42CKE work with?

It is compatible with the 4.2 kW wall-mounted TZ super-compact indoor unit with nanoe X in a single split system, one indoor unit per outdoor unit.

What refrigerant pipe sizes and lengths can I use?

Use 6.35 mm (1/4″) for liquid and 12.7 mm (1/2″) for gas. The pipe run can be 3–15 m with up to 15 m elevation. Beyond 7.5 m, add 10 g of R32 per extra metre.

Can it heat in cold weather?

Yes. Heating operation is supported down to -15°C ambient. If the unit sees temperatures below 0°C for two or three days in a row, Panasonic recommends not fitting the drain elbow, as drain water can freeze and stop the fan.

Do I need F-Gas certification to install it?

Yes. The unit contains R32, so it must be installed and serviced by trained and certified personnel. We verify F-Gas certification before supplying, using the form linked at the top of this page.

What electrical supply and protection does it need?

A 230 V supply using 3 × 1.5 mm² cable, with a 16 A double-pole breaker (3.0 mm contact gap) or an approved 15/16 A plug. A 30 mA RCD is strongly recommended and the installation must comply with BS 7671.

Can I reuse existing refrigerant pipework?

Only if it is suitable for R32/R410A, correctly insulated on both pipes, the right diameter and thickness (0.8 mm minimum) and within length and elevation limits. Never reuse R22 pipework, always make new flares, and pump down properly first.
