The OSO Ecoline 180L indirect unvented cylinder (SCE 180, part number 1327053) delivers mains-pressure hot water from a stainless steel storage tank heated by a 0.8 m² heat exchanger coil and backed up by a factory-fitted 3 kW immersion heater. It is OSO’s entry-level range, built by a Norwegian manufacturer with the same stainless steel construction as the rest of the OSO line-up.
Standing heat loss is just 1.46 kWh per 24 hours (61 W), the cylinder is 580 mm in diameter and 1160 mm tall, and the inner tank carries a 25-year warranty for private domestic installations. A two-port motorised valve, 18 litre expansion vessel and fittings kit are supplied, so it suits straightforward replacement of an existing cylinder or a new boiler-fed unvented system in homes with up to two bath or shower rooms.

Installation and regulations
An unvented cylinder must be installed, commissioned and serviced by a competent person in line with Building Regulations Part G3, the OSO installation manual and the Benchmark commissioning checklist. The safety valve overflow must never be sealed or plugged, and the discharge pipework must be installed to G3 requirements. Annual servicing and an up-to-date logbook are required to keep the warranty valid.
Compatibility
The immersion heater is intended for backup use only; OSO advises against using it as the sole heat source. The cylinder is not suitable for gravity-fed primary systems, and a motorised valve must be fitted in the primary flow (one is supplied). For heat pump systems, choose a dedicated heat pump cylinder with a larger coil.
Sizing guide
OSO’s sizing chart points to the 180 litre size for homes with two bath or shower rooms. The cylinder produces 248 litres of mixed water at 40°C from a single heat-up, so check the bath volume and shower flow rates in the property against that figure before ordering.
Key Features
Coil that heats the whole cylinder
A 0.8 m² stainless coil rated at 16 kW brings the cylinder up to temperature in 34 minutes, with a 24 minute reheat to 70%, so hot water is available quickly after use.
Low standing heat loss
35 mm PUR foam insulation holds standing loss to 1.46 kWh per 24 hours, helping to keep running costs down between heating cycles.
Stainless steel tank and coil
Tank and integrated coil are made from 1.4521 stainless steel with a 25-year tank warranty for private domestic use, plus 2 years on components.
Safety controls factory fitted
Supplied with a temperature and pressure relief valve, 85°C safety cut-out and 6 bar expansion relief. A two-port motorised valve acts as the positive energy cut-out.
Boiler-friendly connections
22 mm coil flow and return on top, S-plan or Y-plan wiring, and compatible with standard thermostat or thermistor (probe) controlled boilers.
Designed for easy installation
Adjustable feet, cable channels in the base, a fully drainable tank and optional VB16 wall bracket for neat, level installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size home is the 180 litre Ecoline suitable for?
OSO’s sizing chart recommends the 180 litre size for homes with two bath or shower rooms. It delivers 248 litres of mixed water at 40°C. For large baths, power showers or very high flow rates, OSO advises that a larger size may be needed.
Is a motorised valve supplied?
Yes. A two-port motorised valve is supplied. It acts as the positive energy cut-out required on indirect unvented cylinders and can be wired into an S-plan or Y-plan system.
Can I use this cylinder with a heat pump?
The Ecoline SCE has a 0.8 m² coil suited to boiler-type primary sources. For heat pump installations, OSO offers dedicated heat pump cylinders with larger coils, so choose one of those instead.
What do I need to supply for installation?
The expansion vessel, fittings kit and motorised valve are supplied. You will need a tundish and discharge pipework installed to Part G3 (22 mm pipework with a continuous fall, maximum 9 m straight run), a drain cock on the cold supply, and a dedicated electrical supply to the immersion heater.
Can I fit a secondary return?
There is no dedicated secondary return tapping on the Ecoline SCE. A secondary return can be connected through a tee piece in the cold feed after the multibloc valve. Fit a timer to the circulation pump and a non-return valve between the pump and the cylinder.
How is the 25-year warranty validated?
The 25-year cover applies to the stainless steel tank in private domestic installations. It requires installation by a professional installer, a completed commissioning checklist, annual servicing recorded in the logbook, and water within OSO’s stated quality limits. The immersion heater should not be exposed to water harder than 10°dH.
Can the cylinder be wall mounted?
Yes. The optional VB16 wall bracket is available for the Ecoline SCE 120 to 180 litre sizes. The wall must be able to carry the full weight of the filled cylinder, which is 215 kg for the 180 litre model.
