The Megaflo Essential ASHP is Megaflo's first cylinder designed specifically for air source heat pumps. It works with all air source heat pumps, including Baxi's mid-temperature HP40/HP50 and high-temperature HP60/HP55 models. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than boilers, so this cylinder uses a large surface area heat exchanger (2–3 m²) to heat water quickly and efficiently. It also has twin 3 kW immersion heaters for boost and legionella cycles, secondary return as standard, 60mm polyurethane foam insulation and a duplex stainless-steel tank. Available in 210, 250 and 300 litres.

⚠ G3 Competent Person & MCS Advice
Installation must be carried out by a G3 accredited competent person, with electrical work by a qualified electrician. For heat pump systems, Megaflo recommends speaking to an MCS-certified installer to confirm the right cylinder size and system configuration.
ℹ Expansion vessel supplied
Unlike the Essential Direct and Essential Indirect, the ASHP model uses an external potable expansion vessel, supplied in the box: 18 litres with the 210L model and 24 litres with the 250L and 300L models.

Key Features
Large Surface Area Heat Exchanger
A 2 m² coil (210L) or 3 m² coil (250L and 300L), rated up to 36.8 kW, transfers heat efficiently at heat pump flow temperatures. Full coil heat-up takes just 21.5 to 27.8 minutes.
Works With All Heat Pumps
Compatible with all residential air source heat pumps, including Baxi's HP40/HP50 mid-temperature and HP60/HP55 high-temperature models, giving installers one cylinder for every ASHP job.
Twin 3 kW Immersion Heaters
Two 3 kW immersion heaters provide a 67-minute boost and support legionella pasteurisation cycles. They also act as a backup if the heat pump is out of action.
Secondary Return as Standard
A secondary return connection on every size lets you fit a circulation loop for faster hot water at taps with long pipe runs, a common need in larger heat pump homes.
60mm Insulation, Duplex Stainless Steel
60mm polyurethane foam keeps water hotter for longer, which matters for heat pump efficiency. The duplex stainless-steel tank resists corrosion and carries a 10-year warranty.
KIWA Approved
Complies with Water Regulation 4 and Building Regulations G3. Standard 22mm / ¾" BSP male connections throughout for straightforward installation.

Why do heat pumps need a special cylinder?
Heat pumps work most efficiently at lower flow temperatures (typically 45–55°C) than boilers (70–80°C). A standard boiler cylinder coil is too small to transfer enough heat at those temperatures. The Essential ASHP's 2–3 m² coil fixes that, giving fast reheat without forcing the heat pump to run hot and inefficiently.
Does it need an expansion vessel?
Yes. Unlike the Essential Direct and Indirect, the ASHP model uses an external potable expansion vessel, which is supplied: 18L with the 210L model and 24L with the 250L and 300L models.
What warranty does it have?
Megaflo provides a 10-year warranty on the duplex stainless-steel inner tank, plus a standard warranty on components. Warranty validity requires correct G3 installation, registration, annual servicing and a completed Benchmark checklist.
Can I replace my Baxi ASHP cylinder with this?

What size heat pump cylinder do I need?
Heat pump cylinders are usually sized slightly larger than boiler cylinders. As a rough guide, 210L suits a 2–3 bedroom home, 250L a 3–4 bedroom home, and 300L larger homes with multiple bathrooms. Your installer's design calculation should confirm the final size.
