The Ideal Heating HP290 Controller is the wall-mounted control interface used to monitor, schedule and fine-tune an HP290 air source heat pump system. Rather than housing the system's electrical connections in a separate control box, this variant is the standalone controller configuration: it gives installers and homeowners a dedicated screen and interface for adjusting heating and hot water settings, running scheduled programmes, and reading back diagnostic status and fault codes for the connected heat pump.

Important: Configure the heat pump's DIP switches for this controller type
Before the HP290 Monobloc is powered up for the first time, the outdoor unit must be configured for the HP290 Controller variant specifically. This means accessing the outdoor unit's control PCB and setting DIP switch S2 (switch 1) to the correct position for this controller — using the setting intended for the Control Box or Cylinder configuration instead will result in incorrect operation. All electrical work must be carried out by a competent electrician with the supply isolated beforehand.
Please Note: Confirm system configuration before ordering
The HP290 platform can be run from a Control Box, a pre-plumbed Cylinder, or this standalone Controller — the correct one depends on how the rest of the installation (cylinder, buffer, zoning) has been designed. Confirm which controller type your system design calls for before ordering, since only one can be active on a given HP290 outdoor unit at a time.
Dedicated heat pump control interface
The Controller gives users a clear digital display and intuitive controls purpose-built for adjusting HP290 heating and hot water settings, without needing a separate control box on the wall.
Scheduled heating and hot water
Heating and hot water can be run to a programmed schedule based on time of day or occupancy patterns, helping reduce unnecessary energy use outside of the times heat is actually needed.
Precise temperature adjustment
Flow and room temperature targets can be fine-tuned directly on the controller, allowing the system to be tuned to the specific property and heat emitters it's serving.
Built-in diagnostics
The controller surfaces error codes and system status updates directly on its display, helping installers and service engineers identify and resolve issues without needing to interrogate the outdoor unit separately.
Compatible exclusively with HP290 heat pumps
This controller is designed specifically for Ideal Heating HP290 air-source heat pumps and is not intended for use with other Ideal Heating product ranges.
Straightforward wall mounting
As a dedicated wall-mounted unit, the Controller can be sited wherever is most convenient for the homeowner to access day-to-day, independent of where the heat pump's outdoor or indoor hydraulic components are installed.

How is the HP290 Controller different from the HP290 Control Box?
The Control Box (239386) is a wall-mounted electrical hub that houses the system's wiring connections as well as a built-in controller. The HP290 Controller (241519) is the standalone control interface variant, used where the system's electrical connections are handled elsewhere — such as via an HP290 Cylinder — and a dedicated wall controller is needed for day-to-day operation.
Does the heat pump need reconfiguring to use this controller?
Yes. The HP290 Monobloc outdoor unit must have its DIP switch configuration set for the Controller variant before first power-up. This is done on the outdoor unit's control PCB and must only be carried out by a competent electrician.
Can I run heating and hot water on a schedule with this controller?
Yes — the controller supports scheduled heating and hot water programmes, letting you set different target temperatures and times for different periods of the day.
What happens if there's a fault with my heat pump?
The controller displays error codes and status updates directly on screen, which helps installers and service engineers diagnose issues without needing to access the outdoor unit.
Is this controller compatible with other Ideal Heating boilers or heat pumps?
No — the HP290 Controller is designed exclusively for Ideal Heating HP290 air source heat pumps and is not intended for use with other product ranges.
