The Grant Aerona Smart Controller Kit (HP290SMART) is the standard-cylinder control package for the Grant Aerona 290 R290 air source heat pump range. Built around Grant's 4.5" colour touchscreen display and dedicated wiring centre, this kit gives installers full weather-compensated control of heating and hot water when the Aerona 290 is paired with a conventional (non pre-plumbed) cylinder. The kit includes the Aerona Smart WiFi Hub for remote monitoring and control via the ecoNET24 app or web portal, along with the outdoor and water temperature sensors required for accurate, real-time system performance data.

Standard Cylinder Compatibility
This kit (HP290SMART) is designed for use with the Aerona 290 heat pump alongside a standard (non pre-plumbed) cylinder. If installing with a Grant QR2 Smart Pre-Plumbed cylinder, use the HP290SMARTPP kit instead, which is factory pre-wired and does not require the wiring centre or touchscreen display to be purchased separately.
Qualified Installation Required
Installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified installer in accordance with BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations. The controller is not an intrinsically safe device; mains power must be isolated before any wiring work and the unit must not be installed in a bathroom or shower room.
Modbus Connection to Heat Pump
The Smart Controller communicates with the Aerona 290 via a 2-core Modbus connection between the heat pump's H1/H2 terminals and the wiring centre's G2 socket. Wiring polarity must be matched exactly – refer to the Aerona 290 installation manual (DOC 0204) for the correct terminal diagram.
Weather Compensation
Continuously monitors outdoor temperature via the supplied weather sensor and automatically adjusts the heat pump's flow temperature to maintain efficient, consistent comfort without user intervention.
Multi-Zone Heating Control
Supports up to three independent heating circuits plus domestic hot water, each with its own heating curve, ideal for homes with mixed radiator and underfloor heating zones.
Remote App & Web Access
The included Aerona Smart WiFi Hub connects the controller to Grant's ecoNET24 platform, giving homeowners and installers remote visibility of system settings, performance data and error codes from a phone or browser.
