Installation Must Be Carried Out by a Qualified Electrician
This is a fixed-wiring, high-voltage system requiring installation by a qualified, competent electrician in line with BS 7671 and Part P of the Building Regulations. Grid connection requires notification under G98 or G99, and any system claiming Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments must be installed by an MCS-certified installer using MCS-certified equipment.
Solar Panels and Mounting Are Not Included
This package supplies the inverter and battery stack only. PV panels, roof or ground mounting hardware, DC isolators, AC isolators and cabling are not included and must be specified separately. A dedicated import/export energy meter is required if the cable run between inverter and incoming supply exceeds 30m.
Why This Combination
The 21.06kWh CQ7 stack (1 Master + 2 Slaves) sits comfortably within the H1-G2's supported range of 2–7 modules (14.04–49.14kWh) per stack, giving installers headroom to add up to four further CQ7 Slave modules later without replacing the inverter or Master. The H1-5.0 operates in both DC-coupled and AC-coupled configurations, so the package also suits retrofits onto an existing PV array.
Why It Performs
Dual MPPT Hybrid Inverter
The H1-5.0-G2 runs two independent MPP trackers (one string per tracker) accepting up to 7.5kW of PV input against a 5kW AC output rating, supporting oversized arrays for better winter performance.
Integrated EPS Backup
Built-in Emergency Power Supply (EPS) automatically switches essential loads to battery power during a grid outage, with no separate backup box required for single-phase installations.
Stackable CQ7 Storage
The bundled 21.06kWh stack (1 Master + 2 Slaves) can be expanded with additional CQ7 Slave modules (FE-CQ7-S) up to the inverter's 7-module / 49.14kWh limit, without touching the existing Master or inverter.
High Round-Trip Efficiency
Inverter Euro efficiency of 97.0% and battery round-trip efficiency of >95% combine to minimise conversion losses between the panels, the battery and the home.
Fanless, Outdoor-Rated Hardware
Both the inverter and battery stack carry an IP65 rating and use natural convection cooling — no fans, no moving parts, and suitable for outdoor wall or floor installation.
Smart Tariff Compatible
Built-in WiFi and FoxCloud connectivity support smart, time-of-use tariff automation (e.g. Octopus Agile) through Fox ESS's own platform and third-party integrations such as Kraken and Capture AI.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is included in the FE-5.0-CQ7-21 bundle?
The bundle includes 1 x Fox H1 5.0kW Hybrid Inverter Gen 2 (FE-H1-5.0-G2), 1 x CQ7 Master (FE-CQ7-M) and 2 x CQ7 Slave modules (FE-CQ7-S), giving a combined battery capacity of 21.06kWh. Solar panels, mounting hardware and AC/DC isolators are not included.
Can I add more battery capacity to this bundle later?
Yes. The H1-5.0-G2 supports CQ7 stacks of up to 7 modules (49.14kWh), so up to 4 additional CQ7 Slave modules (FE-CQ7-S) can be added to the existing Master at any time without replacing the inverter.
Does this package provide backup power during a grid outage?
Yes. The H1-5.0-G2 has an integrated Emergency Power Supply (EPS) that automatically switches essential loads onto battery power if the grid fails, with no separate backup box required.
Is this a single-phase or three-phase system?
Single-phase. The Fox H1 5.0kW Hybrid Gen 2 is a 1PH (single-phase) inverter, suited to the vast majority of UK domestic supplies.
Can this system be installed without solar panels and added later?
Yes. The H1-G2 platform is battery-ready — it can be installed and commissioned as a grid-charging hybrid system now, with PV panels added to the same inverter at a later date with no system redesign.
What's the difference between DC-coupled and AC-coupled operation?
DC-coupled wiring (the standard configuration for a new install) connects PV strings directly to the inverter's MPPT inputs for maximum efficiency. AC-coupled operation lets the H1-G2 add battery storage to an existing PV system that already has its own grid-tied inverter, ideal for retrofit projects.
