Description

The EPH Controls TR1/TR2 is a pre-paired two-way wireless mains switch transceiver pack, supplied as a TR1V2 and a TR2V2. It sends a switching signal from one location to another when running cables is difficult, expensive or not an option. When 230V is applied to the Live in terminal of one unit, a wireless signal is sent to the other, which closes its Live out contact to switch the boiler, valve, pump or other 230V device.

Signalling can be one way or two way: in two-way mode the second unit reports back through its Live in terminal, for example when a motorised valve auxiliary switch has engaged and the boiler can be fired. With 30 metres of range between the units, LED indication of Live in, RF and Live out status, a manual override button on each unit and mounting options that include a single-gang back box, the pack suits programmer to boiler, valve to boiler, pump overrun and unvented cylinder wiring layouts. More than one pair can be used where needed.

How the pack works

TR1V2: when Live in receives 230V, the unit sends an RF signal to the TR2V2 and the green Live in LED lights. TR2V2: on receiving the signal, the COM and Live out contact closes and its green Live out LED lights. For two-way operation, 230V returning to the TR2V2 Live in terminal sends a signal back to the TR1V2.

Contact rating differs between EPH documents

EPH's installation guide for the TR1TR2 V2 lists the contact rating as 230Vac 10(3)A, while the product page lists 230Vac 3A. Until you have confirmed the rating with EPH, keep the switched load within 3A and use a relay or contactor for higher loads. This description covers the current V2 hardware (TR1V2 and TR2V2).

Installation safety

Installation should only be carried out by a qualified person in accordance with wiring regulations (BS 7671). Isolate the supply before work. Fit both units more than 25cm from metal objects and at least 1 metre from electronic devices such as radios, TVs, microwaves and wireless network adapters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the TR1/TR2 do?

It sends a wireless switching signal between two locations when running a cable is difficult or expensive. The TR1V2 receives 230V on Live in and signals the TR2V2, which closes its Live out contact.

What is the difference between one-way and two-way use?

In one-way use the TR1V2 only signals the TR2V2, for example programmer to boiler. In two-way use the TR2V2 also signals back when 230V reaches its Live in terminal, for example from a motorised valve auxiliary switch, so the TR1V2 can then switch the boiler.

Do I need to pair the units?

No. The two units are pre-paired in manufacture. If you ever need to re-pair them, hold Connect for 3 seconds on the TR1V2 until the RF LED flashes white, then hold Connect for 3 seconds on the TR2V2, and press Manual on the TR1V2 to exit.

Can it switch a boiler with low-voltage controls?

Yes. For mains switching, link L to terminal 3. For low-voltage switching, remove the external controls link on the boiler PCB and connect terminals 2 and 3 to the boiler's external controls terminals.

How far apart can the units be?

Up to 30 metres. Keep both units more than 25cm from metal objects and at least 1 metre from electronic devices because these reduce wireless performance.

Can I use more than one pair on a site?

Yes. EPH confirms that more than one set of TR1/TR2 can be installed where required, for example one pair for the boiler call and another for pump overrun.
