Description

The EPH EMBER Gateway GW04 is the dual-band RF and Wi-Fi interface that connects EPH's wireless heating controls to the EMBER app. It talks to your controls by RF and to the EMBER cloud server through your home router on 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi, giving remote control of zones, schedules and boost from any iOS or Android device. It is the upgrade that adds EMBER app control to a UFH10-RF 10 zone wireless underfloor heating wiring centre, and it also serves EPH's PS, RS, TS and US EMBER smart heating systems.

Beyond remote switching, the EMBER app adds Group Zones (boost or change mode on several zones at once), Quick Boost (hold a zone for 2 seconds for a one-hour boost), frost protection, setback on US and PS systems, multi-user invitations and a home screen showing location and weather. The gateway mounts on a wall or stands freely, runs in ambient temperatures of 0…50°C, shows its status on power, Wi-Fi and RF LEDs and is covered by a 5 year manufacturer warranty.

Upgrading a UFH10-RF to app control

On the UFH10-RF, open the menu to P01 rF COn, rotate to P02 gAtE and press to select; then hold the gateway's RF Connect button until the white RF LED flashes. When r01 and CONNECTED appear on the wiring centre, pairing is complete. One UFH10-RF can be paired to each GW04.

Compatibility notes

This is the original black GW04 gateway. In the EMBER app, choose the black GW04 Gateway on the Your System screen. It pairs with R_7-RFV2 programmers (up to four), one RF16 controller, RF1B receivers (set as the hub) and one UFH10-RF. Thermostat packs supplied with their own gateway, such as the CP4i and CP5i, do not need a separate one.

Wi-Fi and placement

The router's SSID must not be hidden during pairing, and the gateway should pair directly to the main router, not a booster or access point. Fit it near the hub receiver or main controller, within 10 metres RF range and at least 1 metre from other electronics such as microwaves, TVs, Wi-Fi boosters, smart speakers and wireless alarms. Disable any VPN on your phone while pairing.

Installation safety

The GW04 is a mains-powered device (230Vac ±10%). Installation, and the wiring of the controls it connects to, must be carried out by a competent person in accordance with BS 7671. Isolate the supply before work on any wiring centre or receiver.

What does the GW04 gateway do?

It links your EPH wireless heating controls to the EMBER app. The gateway uses RF to talk to the controls and Wi-Fi to reach the EMBER cloud, so you can view and change zones, schedules and boost from your phone or tablet anywhere you have internet access.

Is it only for electric heating?

No. The GW04 works with EPH's wireless controls generally, including the UFH10-RF wiring centre for water underfloor heating, RF programmers and RF1B receivers that switch boilers and heat pumps. Its compatibility is set by the controls it pairs with, not by the heat source.

How do I pair it with a UFH10-RF?

On the UFH10-RF choose P01 rF COn, rotate to P02 gAtE and press to select. Hold the gateway's RF Connect button until the white RF LED flashes. When the wiring centre shows r01 and CONNECTED, press to confirm. Only one UFH10-RF can be paired to each GW04.

Which Wi-Fi networks does it support?

Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Keep the router's SSID visible during pairing, pair to the main router rather than a booster, and allow up to 3 minutes for synchronising. If pairing fails, restart your phone and router, close background apps and repeat the Wi-Fi Connect step.

Where should I install the gateway?

Near the hub receiver or main controller, in a spot with good Wi-Fi and within the 10 metre RF range. Keep it at least 1 metre from other electronics such as microwaves, TVs, Wi-Fi boosters and smart speakers, which can interfere with the signal.

Do I need a GW04 with a CP4i or CP5i pack?

No. Those packs include their own gateway. The GW04 is the add-on for controls sold without one, such as the UFH10-RF, R_7-RFV2 programmers, the RF16 controller and RF1B-based thermostats like the CP4V2.
