Installation must comply with BS 7671, relevant DNO notification standards (G98/G99), and all applicable local regulations. The bundle does not include the IQ System Controller 3 INT needed for Full Backup (off-grid capable) mode — it is supplied for Self-Consumption (grid-tied) operation.

The battery unit itself: 5.0 kWh usable capacity, 3.2 kVA continuous / 27.8 A peak output, six embedded field-replaceable IQ8D-BAT Microinverters, lithium iron phosphate chemistry, 90% AC round-trip efficiency, IP55 housing (IP67 for microinverters), passive cooling, wall mounting bracket and all fixings included.
② Communications Kit 2 INT (COMMS-KIT-INT-02)
The wired communication bridge between the IQ Gateway Metered and the IQ Battery 5P. Pre-mounted control adapter in a NEMA 3R outdoor-rated enclosure, with DIN rails (one pre-fitted with the control adapter, one free for an IQ Gateway), battery metering CT, USB 2.0 cable, ground terminal block, and accessories. 5-year limited warranty. Ambient rating -40°C to +45°C.
③ Belcom FireFighter CTRL Cable (CTRL-BL-EU-01 / 4302P2254-01) — 50m reel
The Enphase-approved control cable for European installations, as specified in Enphase technical note TEN-00016-4.0 (July 2025). 22AWG, 2-pair, double-shielded (aluminium/polyester tape + 65% tinned copper braid), LSZH FireFighter® SHF-1 outer jacket, CPR class Dca. Carries the CTRL signal between battery units and between battery and Communications Kit 2. Total CTRL cable length in any system must not exceed 100m.
Why Wired Communication Matters
The Communications Kit 2 provides wired CTRL communication rather than Wi-Fi between the gateway and battery. In practice this means battery management is immune to router issues, Wi-Fi dead spots, and network congestion — problems that have caused reliability complaints with wireless battery systems. Wired communication is the reason Enphase specifies an approved control cable (CTRL-BL-EU-01) rather than permitting generic cable alternatives.
Upgrade Existing Sites Without Replacing Gateways
A key benefit of the Communications Kit 2 is that it allows solar-only sites to gain battery storage without replacing the existing gateway or combiner. Compatible with IQ Combiners 3/3C/3-ES/3C-ES/4/4C and Envoy S Metered — so if your customer already has any of these installed, you simply add the Communications Kit 2 and battery rather than re-doing the entire comms infrastructure. A significant time and cost saving on retrofit jobs.
LSZH Cable in Occupied Buildings
The Belcom FireFighter CTRL cable included in this bundle uses a Low Smoke Zero Halogen outer jacket. For residential installations where the cable passes through living areas, hallways, or escape routes, LSZH is increasingly the required standard under UK Building Regulations. Standard PVC cable releases toxic, corrosive hydrogen chloride gas in a fire — the FireFighter LSZH jacket does not, protecting occupants and limiting damage to electrical equipment.
Self-Consumption Mode — How It Works
In Self-Consumption mode, the system charges the battery from surplus solar generation during daylight hours and automatically discharges to supply the home's loads after sunset or when solar output drops below consumption — reducing grid import. The Enphase App gives homeowners real-time visibility of energy flow and the battery's state of charge, and allows scheduling and tariff optimisation settings to be adjusted remotely.

Does this bundle include everything needed for a complete installation?
The bundle provides the three central components for a grid-tied Self-Consumption system: battery, communications interface, and CTRL cable. You will also need an IQ Gateway Metered (ENV-S-EM-230) if not already on site, CT clamps for consumption monitoring, and the IQ Battery 5P Lifting Handles for safe installation. For Full Backup capability, add the IQ System Controller 3 INT. For floor mounting, add the Pedestal Mount.
Can I add a second IQ Battery 5P to this bundle later?
Yes. Up to four IQ Battery 5P units can be installed on a single-phase IQ Gateway, giving up to 20 kWh usable storage. Additional batteries daisy-chain via CTRL cable — you will need additional CTRL cable length for each extra unit. One Communications Kit 2 INT can handle multiple batteries on the same gateway.
My customer already has an IQ Gateway — do they still need the Communications Kit 2?
It depends on what combiner or gateway version is installed. The Communications Kit 2 is not needed if the site already has an IQ Combiner 5 or 5C, as those units integrate the communications functionality. For all other IQ Gateways, IQ Combiners 3/3C/3-ES/3C-ES/4/4C, and Envoy S Metered installations, the Communications Kit 2 INT is required for battery communication and must not be omitted.
What does the Communications Kit 2 enclosure look like and where is it installed?
The Communications Kit 2 INT comes in a NEMA 3R rated plastic enclosure (368 × 371 × 183 mm) with the control adapter pre-mounted on one of two DIN rails. The second DIN rail can optionally house the IQ Gateway Metered, keeping everything in one enclosure. It is rated for outdoor installation and is typically mounted close to the consumer unit or the battery itself. The USB cable from the kit connects to the IQ Gateway's USB port to power and communicate with the control adapter.
Why is the Belcom CTRL cable included rather than Enphase's own cable?
In Europe, Enphase officially specifies the Belcom FireFighter 430 Series (CTRL-BL-EU-01) as the approved control cable for IQ Battery 5P systems — it is listed by Enphase as the European standard in technical note TEN-00016-4.0 (July 2025). The Belcom cable meets the electrical specification (22AWG, low capacitance, double-shielded RS485) while also carrying an LSZH FireFighter outer jacket and Dca CPR fire classification, meeting the requirements for cable routing through occupied residential buildings.
