The Becker & Wolf BWHP100WM290 is a 100-litre wall-mounted, all-in-one hot water heat pump that combines the compressor, fan, heat exchanger and storage tank in one self-contained unit. There is no outdoor unit and no refrigerant pipework to run between components, so installation comes down to water, electrical and condensate connections. It is factory-tested and plug-and-play ready.
It uses R290 (propane) refrigerant with a GWP of 3 and a 150 g charge, carries an A+ ErP energy class, and delivers a rated COP of 4.32 (2.787 to EN 16147) from a 0.95 kW rated heating capacity. A 2 kW electric element lifts the water to a maximum of 75 °C and backs up the heat pump in cold conditions, while Wi-Fi control through the Becker & Wolf app and a supplied G3 unvented kit make it a practical replacement for gas or direct-electric hot water in small family homes and apartments.

Unvented hot water and flammable refrigerant: competent installation required
This is a mains-pressure (unvented) storage system. Installation, commissioning and the safety discharge arrangements must follow Building Regulations Part G3 and be carried out by a suitably qualified G3-competent installer. Part G requires a potable expansion vessel and a tundish in the system, fitted by the installer, and the G3 kit includes a TMV (thermostatic mixing valve) to guard against scalding during the sterilisation cycle. The unit contains R290 (propane), a flammable refrigerant, in a factory-sealed circuit. Follow the manufacturer's installation manual for location, clearances and room-size requirements, and never modify the refrigerant circuit.
Hot water only: not a space heating replacement
This unit heats domestic hot water only and does not provide central heating. It replaces gas water heaters or direct-electric cylinders for hot water; keep a separate heat source for space heating.
Operating range, space and electrical supply
Install indoors where the ambient temperature stays above 0 °C, close to the main hot water draw-off. The heat pump works in ambient air from -7 °C to +43 °C; outside that range the electric element takes over automatically. The wall must be able to carry four times the filled weight of the unit (use brackets and a backboard on hollow or non-load-bearing walls). Use a dedicated supply, 220–240 V, 1-phase, 50 Hz, with a maximum input of 2300 W (10.2 A), a leakage circuit breaker and an all-pole disconnection device. Plan a condensate drain to a floor drain. Mains inlet pressure should be 0.1–0.4 MPa: add a booster pump below, or a pressure reducing valve above.
What is supplied
The unit ships with a G3 unvented safety kit and the Becker & Wolf Wi-Fi module for app connection, plus the PTR valve and condensate drain fittings listed below.
Key features
All-in-one design
Compressor, fan, heat exchanger and tank sit in one unit with a micro-channel condenser wrapped around the tank. No outdoor unit and no refrigerant pipework means a simpler, faster installation.
Compact wall-hung format
A slim 468 mm diameter x 1422 mm high body at 56 kg net, hung on two wall brackets with vertical air discharge and rated at just 48 dB(A) for quiet indoor running.
Four operating modes
Choose Standard, Heat pump only, Hybrid or Electric mode. Setpoints run 15–60 °C on the heat pump and up to 75 °C with the element, with a 5 °C restart differential.
Quick heat and sterilisation
A fast-heating button brings in the 2 kW element on demand, and a sterilisation mode heats to 75 °C and holds 70–75 °C for 30 minutes.
Wide range and protection
Heat pump operation from -7 °C to +43 °C ambient, automatic defrost, anti-freeze protection that starts the element when ambient is 2 °C or below, and a magnesium anode for tank protection.
Wi-Fi app control
The Becker & Wolf app (iOS and Android) sets temperature and mode, runs repeat-day timer schedules, shows status and error codes, and can share the unit with family members.

How it heats
Standard (STAN)
15–60 °C
Heat pump with automatic element support in cold ambient conditions.
Heat pump (HP)
15–60 °C
Heat pump only. Quick heat and sterilisation are not available in this mode.

Frequently asked questions
Does it need an outdoor unit?
No. The compressor, fan, heat exchanger and tank are all integrated in one unit, so there is no outdoor unit and no refrigerant pipework between components. You connect water, electrics and a condensate drain.
Can it replace my boiler?
It replaces gas or direct-electric hot water production only. It is a hot water heat pump and does not provide space heating, so a separate heat source is still needed for central heating.
What temperatures does it work in?
The heat pump works in ambient air from -7 °C to +43 °C; outside that range the electric element switches in automatically. The default water temperature is 55 °C. When ambient is low and the tank is cold, anti-freeze protection starts the element, so keep the unit powered through freezing weather.
Can it reach 75 °C?
Yes, using the electric element. The heat pump heats to 60 °C; in Hybrid or Electric mode the element carries on to setpoints up to 75 °C.
What does the sterilisation cycle do?
The electric element heats the tank to 75 °C and holds 70–75 °C for 30 minutes, started manually from the controller. The TMV in the G3 kit should be used to prevent scalding at the outlet.
Is a G3 kit included, and who can install it?
Yes, it is supplied with a G3 unvented kit. Because this is an unvented system, it must be installed and commissioned by a G3-competent installer in line with Building Regulations Part G3, with a potable expansion vessel and tundish in the system.
How do I control it remotely?
Download the Becker & Wolf app (iOS or Android), create an account and a home, then add the unit under Large Home Appliance > Smart Heat Pump (Wi-Fi) after holding the power and up keys for 5 seconds. You can then set temperature and mode, schedule repeat timers, view errors and share access with family members.
Is this the right size for my household?
As a guide, a 100 litre unit suits 2–3 people. Peak demand, bath use and the number of bathrooms all matter, so size for your busiest day rather than the average.
What maintenance does it need?
Operate the relief valve lever monthly to confirm water flows, check the magnesium anode annually and clean the Y-filter about once a year. Switch off power before any maintenance.
