The Calmag SI15HAV is a 15mm inline electrolytic scale reducer that helps prevent limescale build-up throughout a home plumbing system. Using electrolytic principles, it changes how the hardness minerals in the water behave so scale is far less inclined to stick to the inside of pipes and appliances. Once fitted, it needs no electricity supply, batteries, magnets or salt, so there is nothing to top up and no ongoing running cost.
Built with a full metal, nickel-plated body and 15mm compression connections, it is a compact, WRAS approved addition to the cold water supply for whole house protection in hard water areas. It is made in Great Britain and gives up to 10 years of service life, depending on local water hardness.

Scale reducer, not a water softener
Electrolytic scale reducers do not soften water. They induce coagulation of the hardness minerals while the overall hardness stays constant. Any scale that does form is less tenacious and easier to remove from showerheads, taps and kettle elements.
Cold water supply installation
This unit is rated for a maximum working pressure of 12 bar at 30°C. Fit it on the cold water supply, not on hot water or heating circuits.
Installation and regulations
Fit in line with good plumbing practice and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. Check for leaks and correct operation on commissioning.
Key Features
Electrolytic Scale Control
Alters the way hardness minerals behave so scale does not bake onto pipe walls and appliance surfaces.
No Power, No Maintenance
No electricity, batteries, magnets, salt or chemicals and no moving parts. Fit it once and leave it working.
No Earth Bonding Required
Unlike some scale inhibitors, there is no earth bonding or earth bond strap needed, which keeps installation quick and simple.
Full Metal Nickel-Plated Body
A durable nickel-plated full metal body with hexagon supports at both ends makes it easier to hold and tighten during fitting.
15mm Compression Connections
15mm compression fittings and a 15mm internal bore suit standard 15mm pipework with no adaptors.
Whole House Protection
Helps protect boilers, showers, kettles and appliances from scale, keeping the water potable and the unit WRAS approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this scale reducer soften my water?
No. It is a scale reducer, not a water softener. The hardness of the water stays the same, but the scale that forms is softer and far less likely to stick to pipes and heating elements.
Does it need power or earth bonding?
No. It needs no electricity, batteries, magnets or salt and no earth bonding. It also has no moving parts and needs no routine maintenance.
Can I fit it on the hot water pipe?
No. It is rated at 12 bar at 30°C, so it should be installed on the cold water supply only.
How long does it last?
Service life is up to 10 years, typically between two and ten years depending on local water hardness. When the internal anode is spent the conditioning effect fades and the unit should be replaced.
How do I fit it?
Turn off and drain the relevant pipework, cut the pipe to suit the unit length (130mm), then tighten the 15mm compression fittings to make a seal. Re-open the supply slowly and check for leaks.
