The Allelectrics 13A switched fused spur with neon (SPSN) is a fused connection unit that gives a fixed appliance its own switched, fused supply, taken from an existing circuit. The switch lets you isolate the appliance locally, the fuse protects the appliance and its flex, and the neon indicator gives a clear visual cue that the unit is switched on and the appliance supply is live.
It is a common choice for fixed, hard-wired equipment such as boilers and central heating controls, extractor fans, heated towel rails and water softeners, where a plug and socket would be unsuitable. With a 13A rating, it handles loads up to around 3kW, and the fuse can be selected to suit the appliance on the day of installation.

Electrical safety
Isolate the supply at the consumer unit before installing or changing anything. Fixed wiring must be carried out by a competent person in accordance with BS 7671 and, where applicable, Part P.
Compatibility: loads up to 13A only
Use this unit only for fixed appliances within its 13A rating. Fit a fuse that matches the appliance’s rating plate, never higher than 13A. High-load appliances such as electric showers and cookers need their own dedicated, higher-rated circuit and switch, not a 13A spur.
Neon or non-neon?
This SPSN version includes the neon indicator. If you prefer a plain switched spur without an indicator, the standard Allelectrics 13A switched fused spur is part code SPS.
Key features
Switched isolation
The built-in switch turns the connected appliance on and off without pulling a plug, and makes servicing easier.
Fuse protection
A replaceable cartridge fuse protects the appliance and its flex from overload. Choose a rating to suit the appliance.
Neon indicator
The neon light shows at a glance that the unit is switched on and the appliance supply is live.
13A rating
Suits fixed appliances up to 13A, which is around 3kW at UK mains voltage.
Spur connection
Designed to be wired as a spur from an existing circuit, a neat way to add a fixed appliance feed.
Fixed appliance use
Ideal for hard-wired equipment where there is no plug and socket, including boilers, controls, fans and towel rails.

Frequently asked questions
What does the neon indicator show?
It glows when the unit is switched on and the supply to the appliance is live. It is a convenience indicator only and does not replace proper isolation: always switch off at the consumer unit before working on wiring.
What fuse should I fit?
Fit the fuse rating recommended on the appliance’s rating plate or manual, and never above 13A. As a guide, a 3A fuse suits loads up to about 700W, a 5A fuse up to about 1.2kW and a 13A fuse up to about 3kW.
Can I use this for an electric shower or cooker?
No. Those appliances draw far more than 13A and need a dedicated circuit with a suitably rated switch and protection.
What is the difference between SPSN and SPS?
Both are 13A switched fused spurs. SPSN includes a neon indicator, while SPS is the version without one.
Does it need an electrician?
Yes. Fixed wiring should be installed by a competent person in line with BS 7671 and, where applicable, Part P.
