The Telford Tempest Indirect S-Plan Pre-Plumbed Cylinder 400 litre is a mains-pressure unvented hot water cylinder supplied with the S-Plan control components already plumbed and wired at the factory. Instead of building the cylinder pipework and zone controls on site, the installer connects the boiler flow and return, the cold feed, the hot draw-off and the heating circuit, then commissions the system. It suits new build and replacement boiler-fed systems where a traditional S-Plan layout is specified and a large hot water store is needed.
The 400 litre cylinder is made from duplex stainless steel with a white steel casing and high density insulation. The factory-fitted package includes two Honeywell 22mm 2-port valves (one for hot water, one for heating), a wiring centre, a dual probe stat, an 8m head circulating pump, a 3kW Incoloy immersion heater, an automatic air vent, a 22mm inlet group and a 15-22mm tundish. It stands 1590mm high with a 660mm diameter, is Made in Britain and is rated ErP Band C.

Unvented regulations: Unvented hot water storage must be installed, discharged and commissioned by a competent person in line with Building Regulations Part G3. The tundish and discharge pipework must be installed to the installation manual. Unvented cylinders need an annual service, and the lifetime cylinder guarantee is conditional on this.
Heat pump systems: This is the boiler-fed indirect S-Plan version, with boiler flow and return connections. For air source or ground source heat pump installations, Telford makes dedicated Tempest heat pump cylinders with a purpose-designed, large-surface-area coil. Please ask us if you are unsure which model suits your system.
Supplied loose: 1 x room stat, 1 x 7-day 2-channel programmer, 1 x potable expansion vessel to suit the cylinder and 1 x installation manual. The expansion vessel is not fitted to the cylinder, so allow space and a mounting position for it.
Key features
Factory pre-plumbed S-Plan
The S-Plan pipework and controls come assembled on the cylinder, which cuts first-fix time and reduces the risk of on-site plumbing and wiring errors.
Honeywell 2-port valves
Two 22mm Honeywell 2-port valves are factory-fitted, one for hot water and one for hot heating, giving independent zone control from one programmer.
Pump and wiring centre
An 8m head circulating pump and a wiring centre are pre-installed, so the electrical connections are gathered in one place for a tidy installation.
Complete unvented safety kit
22mm inlet group (3 bar reducing, 6 bar relief), 1/2 inch 7 bar T&P relief valve, dual probe stat and 15-22mm tundish are all included.
Duplex stainless steel
The cylinder is made from duplex stainless steel and treated against corrosion, with a lifetime guarantee on the cylinder and 2 years on components.
Fast reheat, low heat loss
Reheat from cold in 45 minutes and from 70% draw-off in 35 minutes, with a standing heat loss of 2.58 kWh/24hrs thanks to high density insulation.

Frequently asked questions
What does the S-Plan pre-plumb include?
The cylinder arrives with two Honeywell 22mm 2-port valves, a wiring centre, a dual probe stat, an 8m head circulating pump, a 3kW Incoloy immersion heater, an automatic air vent, a 22mm inlet group, a 15-22mm tundish and a drain cock, all pre-plumbed and pre-wired.
What is supplied in the box but not fitted?
A room stat, a 7-day 2-channel programmer, a potable expansion vessel sized to suit the cylinder and the installation manual are supplied loose and need to be fitted on site.
What are the dimensions of the 400 litre cylinder?
It is 1590mm high with a 660mm diameter. Allow extra clearance for the loose expansion vessel and for access to the pump, valves and wiring centre.
How quickly does it reheat?
The datasheet gives 45 minutes to reheat from cold and 35 minutes to reheat from 70% draw-off, using the 3kW immersion heater.
Is it suitable for a heat pump?
This version is designed for boiler-fed S-Plan systems. For a heat pump, choose a Tempest heat pump cylinder, which has a purpose-designed coil for renewable heat sources. Contact us if you need help choosing.
Who can install it and what is the warranty?
Unvented hot water storage must be installed and commissioned by a competent person under Building Regulations Part G3. Telford provides a lifetime guarantee on the cylinder when it is serviced annually and 2 years on components.
