The Stiebel Eltron DHB-E 27 LCD (part no. 203865) is a 27 kW three-phase instantaneous water heater from the DHB-E LCD comfort range. It heats water only as it flows, so there is no cylinder, no standing heat loss and no waiting for a tank to recharge. Electronic 3i technology uses three sensors and closed-loop control to hold the outlet temperature steady right up to the appliance's output limit, so a shower does not swing hot and cold when someone opens a second tap.
Set the temperature on the rotary selector from 20 to 60 °C in 1 °C steps and read it on the LCD. The cover and programming unit can be pivoted for undersink installation, and the compact 466 x 225 x 116 mm body suits both undersink and oversink positions. It can also reheat preheated water from solar thermal or heat pump systems up to 55 °C, which makes it a practical top-up heater alongside renewables.
This is the fixed 27 kW model: 400 V, 3/PE, 39 A with a 40 A fuse. It is the right choice where a three-phase supply is available and you want the highest output in the DHB-E LCD range for showers, kitchens and several draw-off points.

Safety and regulatory
Installation, commissioning and maintenance must be carried out by a qualified contractor. The heater must be permanently connected to fixed wiring, earthed, and fed through an all-pole isolator with at least 3 mm contact separation. Electrical work must comply with BS 7671 and Part P. The manufacturer advises notifying the electricity and water utilities before installing. Outlet water can reach up to 70 °C, and there is a scalding risk above 43 °C. For shower use the internal anti-scalding limit must be set to 55 °C or less.
Compatibility
Requires a three-phase 400 V supply capable of carrying the load; the maximum permissible mains impedance is 0.21 Ω at 400 V. Water supply must be mains pressure up to 10 bar (1 MPa) with pressure-type taps (open-vented taps are not permitted), and the water must have a specific resistivity of 900 Ω cm or higher at 15 °C. The 27 kW is a fixed-output model; if you need to choose the output, see the selectable 18/21/24 kW version.
Key features
3i electronic control
Three sensors and closed-loop output control deliver a consistent, accurate outlet temperature up to the appliance's maximum output.
LCD and rotary selector
Rotary selector with no end stop, 1 °C steps from 20 to 60 °C, a clear LCD temperature display and a user-selectable °C / °F unit.
Solar and heat pump ready
Reheats preheated water up to 55 °C; maximum inlet temperature 70 °C (for example pasteurisation cycles, no reheating).
Built-in safety
Adjustable internal anti-scalding limit (43, 50, 55 or 60 °C), a high-limit safety cut-out and an air detector that pauses heating for one minute to protect the element.
Bare-wire heating system
A bare-wire heating system in a pressure-tested plastic jacket gives fast heat-up and is suited to hard and soft water areas.
Quick, flexible install
Undersink or oversink, pivoting cover, selectable cable entry from above or below, and a supplied wall bracket, template, 3-way ball valve, strainer and flow limiter.

Flow limiter note
These are heating-capacity figures. The 8.5 l/min flow limiter supplied fitted caps the flow through the appliance. If the 2.5 l/min switch-on flow cannot be reached even at higher pressure, the limiter can be swapped for the plastic profile washer, but keep the flow limiter fitted when using a thermostatic valve.
Installation notes for the trade
First start-up
The appliance ships with the safety switch disabled: press the reset button firmly at commissioning. Purge all air by opening and closing every draw-off point for at least 60 seconds before switching the power on, and repeat the venting step after any interruption to the water supply. Clean the supplied strainer if flow drops, as it must stay fitted for the appliance to function.
Accessories (available from the manufacturer)
LR 1-A load shedding relay for priority control alongside other electric loads, ZTA 3/4 central thermostatic valve for preheated-water systems, a wireless remote control, pressure taps, and installation sets for finished walls, undersink pipework and appliance replacement.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a three-phase supply for the DHB-E 27 LCD?
Yes. It is rated 400 V, 3/PE, 27 kW with a rated current of 39 A and a 40 A fuse. A qualified electrician must confirm the supply and cabling capacity, and the manufacturer advises notifying the utility before installation.
How much hot water will it deliver?
At 27 kW and 400 V it can heat 13.8 l/min from 10 °C to 38 °C or 9.6 l/min from 10 °C to 50 °C. The fitted flow limiter caps flow at 8.5 l/min. Winter inlet water is colder, so real-world output is lower in cold months.
Can it supply a shower?
Yes. A qualified contractor must set the internal anti-scalding jumper to 55 °C or less. If you use a thermostatic valve, set the heater above 50 °C and set the target temperature on the valve.
Can I use it with solar thermal or a heat pump?
Yes. It can reheat preheated water up to 55 °C and tolerates up to 70 °C inlet without reheating. Fit a ZTA 3/4 central thermostatic valve upstream to limit the temperature and protect against scalding.
Can it go undersink as well as oversink?
Yes. The cover and programming unit pivot for undersink use. Mount it vertically near the draw-off point in a frost-free room, with G½ A male water connections.
Should I choose the 27 kW or the 18/21/24 kW model?
Choose 27 kW for the highest fixed output on a three-phase supply. The 18/21/24 kW model lets the installer select 18, 21 or 24 kW with a jumper, with a lower current draw from 29 A, which suits supplies that cannot carry 39 A.
