Description

The Salamander TapBoost (TBS15) is a compact inline booster pump for a single outlet, such as a tap, toilet cistern, dishwasher, washing machine or suitable electric shower, that suffers from weak flow. It lifts flow to between 7 and 11 L/min depending on incoming flow, activates from just 1.2 L/min of natural flow, and works on mains or gravity-fed systems.

Intelligent flow sensing starts the pump when the outlet opens and idles it once flow reaches 11 L/min, keeping output within the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. It runs on 12 V DC from a plug-in power supply (18 W maximum) at 34.2 dBA, with an integrated non-return valve, a 15 mm compression inlet and a 1/2" BSP male outlet. It is WRAS approved and NSF REG4 certified with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

Key notes before you specify

Electrical safety and bathrooms

The pump and its power supply must be installed indoors and protected from frost. In a bathroom or shower room the pump may be fitted within Zone 2, but the power supply unit (IPX0) must be beyond Zone 2, ideally outside the room, with the plug outside the bathroom and protected from water and moisture. Use only the power supply and mains cable supplied. If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.

Know the limits

Single outlet only. TapBoost cannot overcome restricted incoming pipework, such as a lead main, or naturally restrictive outlets, and some combi boilers and electric showers are already at their maximum flow. On an unvented system fit it to cold-water outlets only, never to hot water from an unvented cylinder. A natural flow of at least 1.2 L/min is needed to activate the pump.

Reading the status LED

Steady blue (for 5 minutes): power on, outlet closed. Fast flashing: boosting. Slow pulsing: idle, incoming flow is 11 L/min or more. No light: standby for over 5 minutes, or no power. The power supply has a green LED that lights when powered.

Frequently asked questions

Can TapBoost boost more than one outlet?

No. It is designed for a single outlet. If several outlets in a mains-fed system have poor flow, a larger inline pump or an accumulator is the better choice; in a gravity-fed system, a bathroom or whole-house pump.

Can I fit it to hot and cold supplies?

Yes on combi boiler systems, hot or cold, and on gravity-fed systems, provided there is at least 1.2 L/min of natural flow. On unvented cylinder systems it must only be fitted to cold-water outlets, never to hot water from the cylinder.

Is it suitable for an electric shower?

Sometimes. Some electric showers are restrictive and may already be delivering their maximum flow, in which case TapBoost will not help. Check the shower manufacturer's figures and Salamander's installation manual for the limitations.

Can it be installed in a bathroom or used on drinking water?

The pump can go in Zone 2 of a bathroom, but the power supply and plug must be outside the zones and protected from moisture. It is suitable for outlets supplying drinking water, such as kitchen taps.

How should I install it?

Fit it indoors, close to the outlet, with the flow arrow pointing the right way. Vertical gives the best performance, horizontal is acceptable, and never upside down. Use rigid, supported pipework (not hose sets) on mains water, complete soldering first, and add an isolating valve on the inlet.

What maintenance does it need?

If performance drops, check and clean the inlet filter, and swap in the spare if needed. There are no other user-serviceable parts. In hard-water areas Salamander advises a water softener after the stop tap.
