The Salamander AquaScan is a 4-in-1 handheld digital water multimeter that measures water flow, pressure, temperature and a hardness indication via total dissolved solids (TDS) in a single, portable unit. It gives installers and plumbers the water insight needed to select the right product for an installation and to diagnose pressure, flow or temperature problems on new or existing systems.
A clear digital display shows live and peak readings, and the brass waterway is built to last on site. AquaScan is rechargeable via USB-C and supplied in a robust protective carry case with a range of connection accessories for taps, showers, pipework and hoses. It is handheld and needs no permanent installation into the pipework. Part number: AQUASCAN. Made in the UK.
4-in-1
Flow, pressure, temp, TDS
0-85 °C
Temperature range
0-1000 ppm
TDS hardness indicator
~12 hours
Battery life per charge
Safety: depressurise before disconnecting
Before removing AquaScan from an outlet, open the isolation valve, turn the outlet off and confirm the pressure reads 0.0. When measuring hot water (up to 85 °C), discharge into a suitable container such as a basin or bucket and take care to avoid scalding. Use with clean, potable water only.
Hardness reading is an indication only
TDS gives an indication of hardness, not a full analysis. The water must be static to take a TDS reading (the display shows --- while water is flowing), allow a settling time of at least 30 seconds, and test before any water softener. Where a result is high, a further chemical composition analysis is needed to establish the exact mineral content.
No data logging
AquaScan shows live and peak readings but does not store them. Record results in the specification notepad supplied with the unit.
Works on any installation
A Salamander pump is not required. AquaScan can be used wherever accurate pressure, flow, temperature or hardness measurements are needed.
Key features
4 measurements in 1
Flow, pressure, temperature and a TDS hardness indication in one instrument instead of separate tools.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Salamander pump to use AquaScan, and does it need to be installed?
No to both. AquaScan is a portable, handheld unit used at an outlet. It needs no permanent installation into the system and can be used on any installation that needs accurate readings.
How do I measure the incoming mains flow rate?
Connect AquaScan to the outlet, fully open its isolation valve, take three readings from the live flow display and average them. A garden tap is the best location. Where there is no outside tap, open several outlets and add together the flow at each outlet, keeping all of them open.
How do I check pressure?
For a static pressure test, connect to the outlet, let water flow through, close the isolation valve and make sure every outlet in the property is closed, then read the pressure. For a dynamic pressure test, fully open the isolation valve and open the outlet until the required flow rate is reached, then read the pressure. Always confirm the reading is 0.0 before removing the unit.
Can it test hot water temperature?
Yes, up to 85 °C. Discharge into a suitable container, open the outlet fully and let water run through the unit for 30 to 60 seconds for a more accurate reading.
How does the hardness test work?
AquaScan measures total dissolved solids (TDS/EC) to indicate hardness. Close the lever, keep the water static and allow at least 30 seconds to settle. Test before any water softener. It is an indicator only, so further analysis is needed for the exact mineral content.
Can AquaScan save my readings?
No. It displays live readings and also shows peak readings to cover fluctuations during a test. Note results in the specification notepad supplied.
