Description

The Reina Modal TRV Corner Valve with Lockshield is a matched thermostatic valve set available in Anthracite (VLV-MDLAC), Chrome (VLV-MDLCC), White (VLV-MDLWC) and Black (VLV-MDLKC). Each pack contains one thermostatic radiator valve with a round thermostatic head and one lockshield valve, both with solid brass bodies, a compact corner pattern and 15mm connections.

The head senses room temperature and adjusts the flow of hot water automatically, with a 7 to 28 degrees C setting range, a frost protection setting and positive shut-off. The lockshield lets you isolate and balance the radiator, and its plastic protective cap helps prevent accidental adjustment. The valves are rated for up to 10 bar working pressure.

Flow direction - check before you fit

Published information on whether the Modal valve body is bi-directional is not consistent across the trade. Until you have confirmed this against the instructions supplied with the valves, treat the valve as flow-direction sensitive: look for any flow arrow or marking on the body, connect the flow pipe accordingly, and follow the manufacturer's instructions in the box. If in doubt, contact our technical team before fitting.

Head position and smart thermostat heads

Keep the thermostatic head clear of curtains, covers and shelves so it can sense the room air. The supplied head is a standard manual thermostatic head (not smart). If you plan to fit a smart or aftermarket head, confirm that it is compatible with us before ordering.

Installation and safety

Isolate and drain down the heating circuit, and let the system cool, before fitting. Installation should be carried out by a competent installer in line with the manufacturer's instructions and current regulations. After refilling, bleed the radiator, check every joint for leaks, and make sure the system water is treated with inhibitor to BS 7593.

What is included in the pack?

Which end does the TRV go on?

Fit the thermostatic valve and the lockshield at opposite ends of the radiator. Many installers put the TRV on the flow and the lockshield on the return. Check any flow marking on the valve body and the instructions supplied in the box.

What temperature range does the head cover?

The head adjusts between 7 and 28 degrees C and has a frost protection setting, so the radiator will open to protect the room in cold conditions.

Can I use a smart thermostatic head instead?

The supplied head is manual, not smart. Smart heads depend on the valve's head connection, so please contact us to confirm compatibility before you order or fit one.

Do I need TRVs on every radiator?

Under Part L guidance for England, the usual approach is to fit TRVs on every radiator except in the room that has the room thermostat. Always follow the requirements that apply to your job and region.

Why does the radiator cool down when the room is warm?

That is the TRV doing its job. The head closes the valve as the room reaches the set temperature and reopens when it drops, so a low setting will hold the radiator back sooner.
