The Pylontech PowerCube H2 (H48074) is a 3.552 kWh, 48 V lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery module designed for high-voltage series-connected energy storage systems. Modules are stacked in series inside a rack enclosure and managed by the Pylontech SC1000-100S BMS controller (sold separately and required for operation), allowing a single string of 5 to 12 modules to deliver 240 V to 576 V DC system voltage. The H2 series is suited to commercial, industrial and large residential solar-plus-storage installations where high-voltage DC battery banks are needed for compatibility with high-voltage hybrid inverters from brands including Goodwe, Solis, SolarEdge, Sungrow, Huawei, Ingeteam and others. Each module uses LFP cell chemistry for inherent thermal stability, a 5,000-cycle life (15+ year design life at 25°C), and a 90 % depth of discharge. The 3U rack-mount format measures 442 × 390 × 132 mm and weighs 32 kg. Certified: CE, TüV, UN38.3, UL1973, IEC62619. 10-year standard warranty; 13 years on registration.

⚠ BMS controller (SC1000-100S) required — sold separately: The H48074 module cannot operate alone. A minimum of 5 modules plus the Pylontech SC1000-100S BMS controller are required to form a working PowerCube H2 string. The BMS manages cell balancing, charge/discharge control, protection and communication with the inverter. For systems using multiple parallel strings, an additional MBMS (Master BMS) is also required per string group.
⚠ High voltage DC system — qualified personnel only: A fully assembled PowerCube H2 string operates at up to 576 V DC. Installation, commissioning and maintenance must be carried out by qualified and authorised electrical personnel only. This is a high-voltage DC system and poses a serious electrocution risk if handled incorrectly.

System voltage = 48 V × number of modules. Total capacity = 3.552 kWh × number of modules. Usable energy at 90 % DoD = total capacity × 0.90.
Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4 / LFP) is the safest lithium cell chemistry for stationary energy storage. Unlike NMC or NCA cells, LFP has no oxygen release under thermal stress, making thermal runaway extremely unlikely and eliminating fire risk from overcharging. The LFP molecular structure is highly stable, allowing deep cycling without capacity degradation. Pylontech’s H48074 achieves 5,000 cycles at 90 % DoD — equivalent to over 15 years of daily cycling at design conditions of 25°C.

High-Voltage Series Architecture — 240 V to 576 V DC
Unlike low-voltage systems (48 V flat), the PowerCube H2 connects modules in series so the string voltage rises with every module added: 5 modules = 240 V; 12 modules = 576 V. High-voltage DC batteries are required by high-voltage hybrid inverters (typically those accepting 200 V–600 V DC input) and allow lower current for the same power level, reducing cable and switchgear sizing and resistive losses across the system. This architecture scales from 17.76 kWh to 42.62 kWh in a single string.
Series connection240–576 V DC5–12 modules per string
The PowerCube H2 uses a three-tier BMS architecture for maximum reliability: (1) Cell-level BMS embedded in each H48074 module monitors individual cells; (2) String-level SC1000-100S BMS controller manages the full series string, handles charge/discharge control, cell balancing, protection functions and inverter communication via CAN or RS485; (3) MBMS (Master BMS) for systems with multiple parallel strings, aggregating data from all string BMS units and providing a single communication interface to the inverter. This layered approach ensures safe operation even in large multi-string commercial deployments.

Modular Rack Design — 3U per Module, Expandable
Each H48074 module is a 3U (132 mm) 19-inch rack unit (442 mm wide, 390 mm deep, 32 kg). The rack-mount form factor means modules slot into standard Pylontech rack enclosures with a simple slide-in and cable connection — no special tooling required. Capacity can be added later by inserting additional modules up to the 12-module maximum per string. The modular format also allows rack-mounted and container-based installations, making the system suitable for both building-integrated plant rooms and outdoor container BESS deployments.

RS485 and CAN Communication — Wide Inverter Compatibility
Each module communicates via RS485 and CAN bus (protocol YD/T 1363.3-2005), both of which are supported by virtually all high-voltage hybrid inverters. The SC1000-100S BMS controller acts as the communication gateway to the inverter, transmitting real-time state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), cell voltage, temperature, charge/discharge limits and alarm data. Compatible inverter brands include Goodwe, Solis, SolarEdge, Sungrow, Huawei, Ingeteam, Deye, Growatt HV and others. Check the Pylontech compatibility list for your specific inverter model.
The PowerCube H2 system uses natural convection cooling (no forced-air fans) as the primary thermal management method. This means near-silent operation — important for plant rooms close to occupied spaces. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C for both charge and discharge, making it suitable for UK conditions without active cooling. Where auto-cooling mode is activated, total system noise is minimised across the full operating temperature range.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the PowerCube H2 and the US5000?
The H48074 PowerCube H2 and the US5000 are both Pylontech LFP modules, but they are designed for completely different system architectures. The US5000 is a low-voltage (48 V flat) module that connects in parallel with other US5000 units to increase capacity while keeping the system at 48 V. It is used with 48 V low-voltage hybrid inverters. The H48074 PowerCube H2 is a high-voltage module that connects in series to build up system voltage from 240 V to 576 V DC. It requires a high-voltage hybrid inverter. High-voltage systems allow lower cable currents for the same power, which is advantageous in larger commercial and industrial installations.
Can I buy just one H48074 module and use it standalone?
No. A single H48074 module cannot operate independently. The system requires a minimum of 5 modules plus a Pylontech SC1000-100S BMS controller to form a working PowerCube H2 string. The BMS provides all charge/discharge management, protection functions and inverter communication. Without the BMS, the modules have no way to communicate with the inverter or protect themselves from overcharging/over-discharging.
What BMS do I need for the PowerCube H2?
The required BMS for the PowerCube H2 (H48074 modules) is the Pylontech SC1000-100S. This is different from the SC0500-100S used in the PowerCube X1/X2 range. The SC1000-100S manages 5 – 12 H48074 modules in a single string. If you are operating multiple strings in parallel, you also need a Pylontech MBMS unit to aggregate communication across strings. Always verify BMS compatibility before purchasing modules.
Which inverters are compatible with the PowerCube H2?
The PowerCube H2 is compatible with high-voltage hybrid inverters that accept 200 V – 600 V DC battery input and communicate via CAN bus or RS485. Compatible brands include Goodwe (GW-series), Solis (RHI series), SolarEdge StorEdge, Sungrow SH-series, Huawei SUN2000L, Ingeteam, Deye and Growatt SPH/SPA HV models, among others. Pylontech publishes an official inverter compatibility list at pylontech.com.cn/service. Always check the compatibility list for your specific inverter model number before purchasing, as compatibility can vary between firmware versions.
How do I expand my PowerCube H2 system after initial installation?
You can add modules to an existing string up to the 12-module maximum. However, expansion must follow Pylontech’s expansion protocol — contact Pylontech or your distributor for guidance before adding modules to an existing system. Key considerations: new modules should ideally be the same firmware version; do not mix H48050 and H48074 modules in the same string. For capacity beyond 42.62 kWh (12 modules), additional parallel strings require an MBMS unit. It is strongly recommended to size the initial system to avoid the need for later expansion where possible.
What is the usable energy storage capacity of an H2 system?
Usable capacity depends on the DoD (depth of discharge) setting. At Pylontech’s specified 90 % DoD, a 5-module string (17.76 kWh total) delivers approximately 15.98 kWh of usable energy. A 12-module string (42.62 kWh total) delivers approximately 38.36 kWh usable. The DoD setting is typically configured via the inverter settings in conjunction with BMS communication; do not manually override factory protection settings.
