Description

The NexBlue Edge 22kW EV Charger is a compact, wall mounted smart electric vehicle charge point designed for UK homes, workplaces and small commercial sites. It supports both single phase and three phase supplies, delivering adjustable charging from 1.4kW to 22kW through a universal Type 2 socket.

With integrated PEN fault protection, dynamic load balancing, solar surplus charging and remote updates over WiFi, 4G eSIM or Bluetooth, the NexBlue Edge provides a future ready charging solution. Its IP54 rated, IK08 impact resistant enclosure makes it suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, while OCPP 1.6-J support helps protect long term compatibility with charging platforms.

Installation note: This is an untethered Type 2 socket charger, so a separate Type 2 charging cable is required. The unit includes 6mA DC and 30mA AC residual current detection, but an external Type A RCD is required as part of the installation. Installation must be completed by a suitably qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671.

Compatibility note: Full 22kW charging requires a compatible three phase electricity supply and a vehicle capable of accepting three phase AC charging. On a standard single phase supply, output is limited to the charger’s single phase capability.

What vehicles can the NexBlue Edge charge?

The charger is compatible with electric vehicles that use a Type 2 AC charging inlet and are suitable for the available supply type. As it is untethered, drivers use their own Type 2 charging cable.

Does it work on single phase and three phase supplies?

Yes. The NexBlue Edge supports both single phase and three phase installations. A three phase supply is required to achieve the full 22kW charging rate,  single phase installations provide a lower maximum output.

Is an external RCD required?

Yes. Although the charger includes 6mA DC and 30mA AC residual current detection, NexBlue specifies that an external Type A RCD is required. Your installer should design the protective devices in line with BS 7671.

Can it charge using solar power?

Yes. The charger supports solar surplus charging, allowing compatible systems to prioritise available solar generation for EV charging where the installation configuration supports it.

How is access controlled?

Charging can be started using Plug & Play, the NexBlue app, RFID, NFC or the NexBlue User Portal. An RFID card is included, and compatible RFID keytags can also be used.

Is the NexBlue Edge suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. Its IP54 enclosure provides protection against dust and water splashes, while IK08 impact protection and UV resistant materials support outdoor installation. It operates in temperatures from -30°C to +50°C.
