The HydroFLOW Pearl is a chemical-free electronic water conditioner from Hydropath, built on the manufacturer's proven HS38 signal technology. Rather than removing minerals or altering water chemistry like a traditional softener, it transmits a varying electrical signal into the pipework, keeping dissolved limescale-forming minerals in suspension so they pass through the system instead of hardening onto pipe walls, heating elements, and fittings.
Fitted around the cold feed to the point where water is heated — the inlet to a combi boiler or hot water cylinder — the Pearl clips on without cutting into pipework or altering the plumbing. It is sized for homes with up to four bedrooms in hard water areas, and its ultra-low running cost makes it a practical, ongoing alternative to salt-based softening or repeat chemical descaling.

SunAmp thermal battery compatibility
Hard water areas often require an approved electronic scale reducer to keep a SunAmp heat battery warranty valid. The Pearl's clip-on installation on the cold feed makes it a straightforward way to meet that requirement without invasive plumbing work.
Fitting location and electrical loops
For best performance, fit the unit on the cold feed ahead of the point where water is heated — not on a hot pipe run. On metal pipework, avoid installing the unit within an electrical loop (where the signal can travel through metal from one side of the unit back to the other via earth bonding); moving the unit outside the loop restores correct signal propagation. This does not apply to plastic pipe.
Chemical-free, no maintenance
Uses an electronic signal, not chemicals or magnets, to keep limescale in suspension — there are no cartridges, salt, or consumables to replace.
Non-invasive clip-on fitting
Clips directly around existing pipework up to 38mm OD with cable ties — no cutting, no compression joints, and no plumbing alterations required.
Protects appliances and heating systems
Just 0.8mm of limescale build-up can cut heating efficiency by up to 10%. The Pearl helps protect boilers, cylinders, dishwashers, and washing machines from that efficiency loss.
Ultra-low running cost
Draws a maximum of 1.2W, so it runs continuously for a running cost of only a few pounds a year — negligible next to salt or cartridge-based alternatives.
Backed by a 3-year guarantee
Covered by Hydropath's 3-year manufacturer guarantee, with repair or replacement should a fault occur within that period.
Sized for family homes
Rated for properties with up to four bedrooms in hard water areas, covering the whole-house plumbing downstream of the fitting point.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where should the Pearl be installed?
Fit it on the cold water feed leading into the point where the water is heated — for example the cold inlet to a combi boiler, or the cold feed to a hot water cylinder. Fitting on a hot pipe run is not the recommended location.
Does it remove existing limescale, or only prevent new build-up?
Both. The Pearl is designed to prevent new limescale formation on pipes and heating surfaces and to gradually reduce existing deposits over time as the signal keeps scale-forming minerals in suspension rather than allowing them to bond to surfaces.
Will it soften my water like a salt-based softener?
No. The Pearl does not remove minerals or change water chemistry the way a salt-based softener does. It is an electronic scale conditioner: the water's mineral content stays the same, but those minerals are kept from hardening into limescale.
What size property is it designed for?
The Pearl is sized for domestic properties with up to four bedrooms in hard water areas. Larger properties or commercial installations typically require a higher-output Hydropath unit.
Is professional installation required?
The unit itself clips on without plumbing work, but the power supply must be wired to a 3A fused spur in line with current electrical regulations, so a competent person or qualified electrician should carry out that connection.
What is covered under the guarantee, and what could void it?
Hydropath provides a 3-year guarantee covering repair or replacement of a genuine product fault. Unauthorised repairs, damage from an unstable or non-surge-protected power supply, and purchases through unauthorised resellers are excluded.
