The Honeywell V4073A1039 is a 22mm 3-port mid-position motorised valve, designed to control the flow of water in a small-bore domestic central heating system where both the radiator and hot water cylinder circuits are pumped. It's the long-standing industry benchmark for Y-Plan heating systems, directing flow to heating only, hot water only, or both simultaneously via its mid-position function.
Suited to systems up to 90,000 Btu/h (26 kW), the valve features a robust body with 22mm compression connections, a quiet synchronous motor, and a replaceable powerhead that can be swapped without draining the system. A manual lever allows the valve to be set to 'MAN. OPEN' for draindown and filling, with normal operation controlled automatically in the 'AUTO' position.

Qualified Installation Required
This valve carries a 230-240V mains supply and must be installed by a competent person in accordance with IEE Regulations and the Electricity at Work Regulations. A Class 'A' switch with at least 3mm contact separation in all poles must be incorporated in the fixed wiring as a means of disconnection, and the system must be appropriately fused.
Correct Plumbing Orientation Is Critical
The valve must not be fitted on the return pipework under any circumstances. Flow from the boiler connects to port AB, the radiator circuit to port A, and the hot water cylinder circuit to port B. It may be plumbed at any angle, but must not be mounted with the valve head below the horizontal level of the pipework, to avoid a potential leak hazard.
Wiring Centre Recommended
Honeywell recommends using either the 10-way junction box or Sundial wiring centre to ensure first-time, fault-free wiring of this valve. If replacing an older 6-wire relay model valve with this non-relay 5-wire valve, contact Resideo for wiring advice before proceeding.
Y-Plan Mid-Position Control
The 3-port mid-position design directs water flow to heating only, hot water only, or both circuits simultaneously, making it the standard valve for Y-Plan central heating layouts.
Replaceable Powerhead
The powerhead can be replaced without draining the system, significantly reducing the time and disruption involved in valve servicing or replacement.
Robust 22mm Compression Fitting
Fitted with 22mm compression connections suited to standard domestic pipework, with a manual lever for AUTO or MAN. OPEN operation during draindown and filling.
Quiet Synchronous Motor
A quiet synchronous motor drives smooth, dependable valve movement, minimising noise during normal operation.
Auxiliary End-Switch
An auxiliary end-switch provides a potential-free contact for boiler or pump control, integrating cleanly with a wider Y-Plan wiring setup.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
Rated for an operating temperature range of +5°C to +88°C, with a maximum ambient temperature of +52°C, suiting typical domestic plant room and airing cupboard installations.

What type of heating system is this valve for?
The V4073A1039 is designed for Y-Plan fully pumped central heating systems, where both the radiator and hot water cylinder circuits are pumped and controlled from a single 3-port valve.
Can the valve be replaced without draining the system?
The powerhead can be replaced without draining down the system, though the valve body itself is a plumbed-in component that would require drain-down to replace.
Where should this valve be fitted?
It must be fitted on the flow pipework, never the return, with the boiler connected to port AB, the radiator circuit to port A, and the hot water cylinder to port B. The valve head must not be mounted below the horizontal level of the pipework.
What size system can this valve support?
It's suited to small-bore domestic systems up to 90,000 Btu/h (26 kW) output.
Is a special wiring centre needed for installation?
It's not mandatory, but Honeywell recommends using a 10-way junction box or Sundial wiring centre to help ensure fault-free wiring on the first attempt.
