Which hybrid inverters and battery systems is this meter compatible with?
The SDM630MCT V2 communicates via standard Modbus RTU over RS485 — the industry-standard protocol for energy meter integration. It is compatible with the vast majority of hybrid inverters and battery storage systems that require an external grid meter, including Sunsynk (Ecco and standard ranges), Solis, Fox ESS, SolarEdge, Fronius, Huawei, Sungrow, and others. Always confirm the specific Modbus register map and CT input specification required by your inverter manufacturer. Some inverters require the meter's Modbus address and baud rate to be set to specific values during commissioning.
Does this work on a single-phase (1P2W) property?
Yes — the SDM630MCT V2 supports single-phase two-wire (1P2W) configuration in addition to three-phase configurations. For a single-phase property, only one CT clamp is required (on the live conductor at the incoming supply), and the meter is configured for 1P2W mode via its display buttons. This makes the SDM630MCT V2 a single product suitable for both single and three-phase applications, simplifying procurement.
What does MID certification mean, and is it required?
MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) certification confirms the meter has been independently assessed and meets the legal requirements for legal-for-trade (fiscal) energy measurement in the UK and EU. It is required where the meter reading is used for billing, in sub-metering situations where tenants are charged for energy consumption, or in any contractual energy measurement role. For domestic solar monitoring and self-consumption optimisation (where no billing is involved), MID certification is not legally required — but it does confirm the meter is built and tested to a high accuracy standard. Can the meter be installed without disconnecting supply?
The CT clamps can be fitted around live cables without disconnecting supply — they simply clip around each phase conductor at the incoming supply point, typically in the consumer unit or distribution board. However, the meter's voltage sensing terminals must be connected to each phase and neutral, and this wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the supply isolated or under careful live-working conditions.
