The Fastensol 3550mm Black Rail forms the structural core of the Fastensol pitched roof mounting system. For each row of solar panels, a pair of these rails is mounted horizontally across the roof and supported by roof hooks at intervals of no more than 1.2 metres, with the distance between the two rails typically set to around three-quarters of the panel height.
Panels are laid across the rail pair and secured with Fastensol end and mid clamps. For rows longer than a single 3550mm length, additional rail sections can be joined seamlessly using the Fastensol Rail Splice, and rails can be cut to length on site with a standard hacksaw or grinder to suit the exact roof dimensions.
Do Not Mix With Other Suppliers' Hardware
Fastensol mounting equipment must not be used with mounting equipment from other suppliers. Mixing rails, clamps, hooks or splices between different manufacturers can compromise structural integrity, will invalidate the 12-year product warranty, and may breach the conditions of MCS certification for the completed installation.
Key Features
Core Structural Rail of the Fastensol System
Forms the backbone of every Fastensol pitched roof installation, providing the mounting surface onto which roof hooks, clamps, and panels all connect.
Durable Aluminium Alloy Construction
Manufactured from aluminium alloy with a black anodised finish, combining low weight with strong corrosion resistance for long-term rooftop performance.
On-Site Cuttable & Extendable
Rails can be cut to length with a standard hacksaw or grinder to fit exact roof dimensions, and joined end-to-end using the Fastensol Rail Splice for longer continuous rows.
High Wind & Snow Load Rating
Rated to 60 m/s wind load and 2.0 kN/m² snow load, suitable for the great majority of UK roof exposure categories up to a 20m building height.
Suitable for Pitched & Flat Roofs
Compatible with tiled, slate, and sheet metal roof coverings on slopes up to 60°, and can be adapted to flat roof mounting systems with the appropriate Fastensol accessories.
MCS 012 Certified System
Part of the MCS 012-certified Fastensol pitched roof mounting system, supporting compliant UK grid-connected solar installations.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far apart should the roof hooks be along this rail?
Fastensol specify roof hooks at intervals of no more than 1.2 metres along each rail. For a 3550mm rail, this typically means a minimum of 3 hooks spaced evenly along its length, depending on rafter positions.
How far apart should the two rails in a pair be positioned?
The distance between the two rails in a pair should be around three-quarters of the panel height, positioning the clamping points close to the module manufacturer's recommended quarter-points for optimal load distribution.
Can I join two rails together for a longer row?
Yes. Use the Fastensol Rail Splice to join two rail sections into one continuous, structurally sound run for rows longer than a single 3550mm rail length.
Can the rail be cut to a shorter length?
Yes. The rail can be cut to length with a standard hacksaw or grinder on site to match the exact dimensions of your roof or array layout.
Can I use this with mounting rails or clamps from another brand?
No. Fastensol components are engineered as a matched system, and mixing Fastensol hardware with mounting equipment from other suppliers is not supported and will void the warranty. Always use genuine Fastensol rails, clamps, hooks and splices together as a complete system.
What warranty does this product carry?
Fastensol backs this product with a 12-year product warranty against defects in material and workmanship, plus a 5-year finish warranty on the anodised coating, from Xiamen Fasten Solar Technology Co., Ltd. The finish warranty is void if the component is not cleaned and maintained in line with AAMA 609 & 610-02 guidance for architecturally finished aluminium, and the full warranty is void if the product is modified, installed incorrectly, or mixed with another manufacturer's mounting hardware.
