The EnviroGuard 130mm Adjustable Solar Spike (Pack of 50, Black) is a non-intrusive bird deterrent system designed to stop pigeons and other pests from roosting and nesting underneath solar PV arrays. Each pack contains 50 individual 500mm lengths, giving a total coverage of 25 linear metres — enough to proof a typical domestic or small commercial array perimeter.
Constructed from 304 grade stainless steel pins set into a UV-stabilised black polycarbonate base, the spikes blend in neatly against black-framed solar panels for a more discreet finish. The pins are adjustable and can be trimmed with wire cutters, and the system requires no drilling into the panel frame, so it will not affect or void any manufacturer solar panel warranty.

Compatibility
This spike system is designed for solar panels that do not have a lip on the underside of the frame, where traditional bird mesh and standard mounting clips cannot be fitted. It is ideal for uneven roofs and profiled tin-clad roofs where a flexible, individually adjustable spike is needed to follow the roofline. The black base is particularly well suited to modern all-black solar panels.
Fixing Method — Clips Sold Separately
This spike is fixed using EnviroGuard's Solar Panel Speed Clips (sold separately) or with a suitable strong-bond fixing adhesive. EnviroGuard recommends 6 clips per metre (3 clips per 500mm length) for the strongest, most secure fit. Speed clips are available in 30mm, 35mm and 40mm sizes to suit different panel frame depths, and in black or clear to match this spike's base colour.
Key Features
304 Stainless Steel Pins
Pins are manufactured from 304 grade stainless steel with a diameter of approximately 2mm, chosen for long-term corrosion resistance in exposed rooftop conditions.
UV-Stabilised Black Polycarbonate Base
The black polycarbonate base is UV-stabilised to resist fading and degradation from prolonged sunlight exposure, and gives a discreet, low-visibility finish against black-framed panels. The base can be cut down to size by hand or with heavy-duty cutters where less than a full length is required.
Fully Adjustable, No-Drill Installation
The 130mm pin length can be trimmed with a set of wire cutters to leave a neat, straight edge tailored to the gap under the panel. No drilling into the panel frame is required, so the manufacturer's solar panel warranty is not affected.
Suited to Uneven and Profiled Roofs
Because each spike is individually adjustable, the system follows uneven roof lines and profiled tin-clad roofing far more effectively than rigid mesh systems, giving installers flexibility across varied roof types.
Simple, Removable Fit
Once Speed Clips are fitted, the spike is held securely in place but can be removed at any time by reversing the installation process — useful for panel maintenance, cleaning, or access.
Full Corner and Perimeter Coverage
Spikes should be installed to both internal and external corners of the array with no gaps left in the perimeter, ensuring birds cannot find an unprotected access point underneath the panels.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Black and Clear versions of this spike?
Both versions share identical dimensions and performance — 130mm adjustable 304 stainless steel pins on a UV-stabilised polycarbonate base. The only difference is the base colour: Black blends in neatly with black-framed solar panels for a more discreet finish, while Clear suits light-coloured frames. Choose whichever best matches your panel frame.
Do I need the Speed Clips to install this product?
The spike can be fixed either with EnviroGuard's Solar Speed Clips (sold separately) or with a suitable strong-bond fixing adhesive. Speed Clips are the quicker, tool-free option and allow the spike to be removed and refitted for maintenance, so most installers order clips alongside the spike. EnviroGuard recommends 6 clips per metre of spike.
Will this affect my solar panel warranty?
No. The spike system requires no drilling into the panel frame, so it will not affect or void the panel manufacturer's warranty. It is fitted entirely externally using clips or adhesive.
How many packs will I need for my array?
Measure the full perimeter of your solar array in metres, then divide by 25 (the coverage of one pack of 50) to work out how many packs are required. Spikes should run continuously around both internal and external corners with no gaps, so it's worth rounding up slightly to allow for trimming waste at corners and joins.
Is this suitable for panels that have a lip on the underside?
Panels with a lip on the underside are usually better suited to EnviroGuard's traditional mesh and mesh clip bird proofing system. This adjustable spike product is specifically designed for panels without an underside lip, or for uneven and profiled roofs where mesh cannot be tensioned correctly.
