Description

The Ariston Andris Lux 30L Oversink 3kW (3820017) is a compact unvented (mains pressure) electric water heater for places where a central hot water system is impractical: kitchens, washrooms, garages, workshops, loft conversions and holiday lets. The 30 litre titanium enamelled steel tank is heated by a 3kW copper (nickel-free) element and reaches temperature from cold in around 30 minutes.

Because it runs at mains pressure, hot water arrives with the same pressure as the cold supply. This model is supplied as a complete kit with Kit A (2 litre expansion vessel and non-return valve), Kit B (3.5 bar pressure reducing valve) and Kit C (discharge tundish), so the safety components for a compliant installation are in the box. Controls are simple: a mechanical temperature dial with an E setting for comfort and energy saving, and a heating lamp that shows when the element is working.

Unvented safety requirements

This 30 litre unit must be fitted with the supplied safety set and discharge pipework. The temperature and pressure relief valve (7 bar / 90C) and pressure relief valve (6 bar) must discharge visibly through the tundish (Kit C) to a suitable drain. No valve may be fitted between the expansion and relief valves. Pipework from the relief valves must withstand 90C at 7 bar, and copper is recommended. Installation must comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Building Regulations, and the electrical connection must be made by a competent electrician to BS 7671.

Check your mains pressure

A cold supply of 1 to 3.5 bar is required. If your mains pressure exceeds 3.5 bar, Kit B must be fitted. If a non-return valve, water meter, pressure reducing valve or similar is on the cold main, Kit A (expansion vessel) is needed to take up expansion. Ariston states that expansion via the feed pipe is not suitable for the 30 litre model.

Installation notes from Ariston

Keep the appliance packed until it is ready to fit and take care not to damage the relief valve on top when unpacking. Make sure the wall can carry the unit full of water, install in a frost-free location, connect the dielectric junctions to the heater before any other connection, and fit a low-level drain-off cock on the hot and cold plumbing.
