Will the Mini W fit my washing machine?
The Mini W has a 3/4" BSP connection, which is the universal standard for washing machine cold water inlet hoses in the UK and EU. It fits between the tap and the inlet hose — simply unscrew the hose from the tap, thread the Mini W onto the tap, then reconnect the hose to the other end of the Mini W.
Do I need one for the hot water inlet as well?
Most modern washing machines are cold-fill only — they heat water internally. If your machine is cold-fill only (the most common type), a single Mini W on the cold inlet is all you need. If your machine has both hot and cold inlets, fitting one Mini W on each inlet would provide complete protection.
How does the Mini W compare to using descaler tablets?
Descaler tablets are a reactive solution — they dissolve limescale that has already formed. The Mini W is a preventive solution — it stops limescale from bonding in the first place. Prevention is more effective than removal: once scale has formed on a heating element, it is difficult to remove completely and the element may already be damaged.
