The ThermRite PRO 16mm is the slimmest panel in the ThermRite PRO dual-purpose range — a high-performance EPS 400 kPa insulation board laminated with a 200-micron aluminium heat-reflective foil and pre-routed for 16mm UFH pipe at 150mm centres. At only 16mm depth, it is the first choice for installations where floor height increase must be kept to an absolute minimum, while still delivering the high compressive strength and fast heat transfer needed for any floor finish. Its dual-purpose design accepts tile, vinyl, carpet, bonded wood and floating interlocking wood or laminate floors — all from the same panel.

Key Features & Benefits
16mm — Minimum Floor Build-Up
The slimmest panel in the ThermRite PRO range at 16mm total depth, covering the pipe entirely. Where adjacent rooms have existing floor levels and transitions need to be kept minimal, the 16mm PRO delivers full system performance with the lowest possible height penalty.
EPS 400 kPa — Premium Compressive Strength
EPS Grade 400 kPa is the highest compressive strength EPS available for overlay panels — approximately 40 tonnes per m². This eliminates deflection under point loads from furniture legs, appliances and heavy foot traffic, preventing tile cracking and ensuring the floor remains dimensionally stable over its lifetime.
200-Micron Aluminium Foil — High Heat Output
A 200-micron metallised aluminium foil is bonded to the top surface and into the pipe grooves. This foil acts as a radiant heat distribution layer, spreading warmth evenly across the full panel surface and significantly reducing warm-up time compared to unfoiled panels.
Dual Purpose — Any Floor Finish, One Panel
Uniquely suited to installations where the floor finish is undecided at the time of installation. The same panel accepts: floating interlocking wood/laminate (simply float the panel — no fixing needed); bonded wood, tile, vinyl or carpet (fix panel with spray adhesive or tile adhesive, then screed or lay finish directly).
150mm Pipe Centres — High Heat Output
Pre-routed grooves at 150mm centres provide a high-density pipe layout for maximum heat output — suited to standard well-insulated rooms and compatible with both boiler and heat-pump primary circuits.
Grooves Retain Pipe Without Clips
The radiused grooves are precisely sized for 12mm multilayer pipe (PEX-Al-PEX or PERT-Al-PERT), holding it securely without any supplementary pipe clips or fixings. This speeds up installation significantly on large floor areas.
50-Year Guarantee
ThermRite backs the PRO dual-purpose insulation panels with a 50-year guarantee — giving complete confidence in the long-term performance of the thermal and structural properties of the panel across the full lifetime of the building.

Installation Overview
For Floating Wood or Laminate Floors
Lay panels directly on the existing screed or floor deck without fixing.
Press 12mm pipe into the pre-routed grooves.
Lay interlocking T&G wood or laminate boards at 90° to the pipe direction over the panels.
For Tile, Vinyl, Bonded Wood or Carpet
Check subfloor flatness (SR2 standard minimum).
Bond panels to screed or 18mm+ plywood with EPS contact spray adhesive or flexible tile adhesive.
Press 12mm pipe into grooves.
Apply 5mm (tile) or 10mm (vinyl) self-levelling compound over panels.
Apply finish: tile adhesive and tiles, vinyl, bonded board or carpet as required.
ℹ Note: Leave a 5–10mm expansion gap around the perimeter of the room before installing any floor finish. Always allow adhesive/screed to cure fully before laying the floor finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the 16mm PRO under tiles without an additional backer board?
For tiled finishes, a 5mm self-levelling screed layer must be applied over the panels after pipe installation — the foil surface is not designed for direct tile adhesion. The levelling compound bridges the pipe grooves and creates a flat substrate for tiling. If you want to tile directly without screed, see the ProTile20 cementitious panel instead.
What is the difference between 16mm and 20mm ThermRite PRO?
Both are identical in construction (EPS 400 kPa + 200µm foil), pipe size (16mm) and pipe centres (150mm). The 16mm version is for the absolute minimum floor build-up, while the 20mm version provides marginally more insulation depth. Choose 16mm when door thresholds or adjacent floors dictate the tightest possible height increase.
Can the panel be floated or does it need to be fixed?
For interlocking floating wood or laminate floors, the panel can be simply laid without any adhesive or mechanical fixing — the weight of the floor finish and furniture holds it in place. For bonded finishes (tile, vinyl, bonded wood, carpet), the panel must be fixed to the subfloor with EPS contact spray adhesive or flexible tile adhesive.
Is the 16mm PRO suitable under carpet?
Yes. For carpet, bond the panels to the subfloor, install the pipe, apply a 10mm layer of self-levelling compound and then lay the carpet with a suitable underlay. The 400 kPa compressive strength ensures the panel will not deform under furniture legs even through the carpet and underlay.
What pipe is compatible with this panel?
The grooves are pre-routed for 16mm multilayer pipe — both PEX-Al-PEX and PERT-Al-PERT formats are suitable. The 12mm pipe variants use the 18mm Floating Floor panel from the ThermRite range instead.
