Baxi Air Source Heat Pumps 2026: HP60, HP40 & £500 Cashback

Baxi has been heating UK homes for over 150 years, and their air source heat pump range represents the next chapter — purpose-built for the British retrofit market. The flagship HP60 R290 raises the bar with high-temperature performance on a natural refrigerant, while the established HP40 range continues to win favour for its no-fuss design and breadth of output sizes. Both are backed by £500 per-installation cashback for Baxi Works members running until 31 July 2026 — making right now an excellent time to act.

This guide covers both heat pump ranges, the matched cylinder options, the cashback promotion, the Baxi MCS Umbrella Scheme for non-accredited installers, and how homeowners can get a tailored heat pump estimate using the Spruce tool.

"The HP60 ASHP delivers reliable performance and quiet operation using a low GWP 3 refrigerant, helping meet today's expectations and tomorrow's regulations — with a seasonal coefficient of performance of up to 5.34 and sound power equivalent to a refrigerator hum."

Why Choose the Baxi HP60?

Launched in October 2025, the HP60 is Baxi's most technically advanced domestic heat pump. Here's what makes it stand apart in the 2026 ASHP market.

🌿

R290 Natural Refrigerant

Uses propane (R290) with a Global Warming Potential of just 3 — one of the lowest available and future-proofed against upcoming F-Gas regulations.

🌡️

High-Temperature Output

Delivers flow temperatures up to 75°C at −10°C ambient — meaning it can replace a gas boiler without requiring an immediate emitter upgrade on most properties.

📊

SCOP Up to 5.34

A Seasonal Coefficient of Performance of 5.34 means for every unit of electricity consumed, over 5 units of heat are delivered — significantly cutting running costs.

🔇

Ultra-Quiet: 48 dB(A)

Sound power from 48 dB(A) is comparable to a household refrigerator — ideal for installations close to boundaries, bedrooms, or garden rooms.

❄️

Operates to −25°C

Designed to perform in ambient temperatures from −25°C to +35°C, ensuring reliable heat delivery through the harshest UK winters.

🛡️

Magnetic Filter Included

Comes with a magnetic filter and Y-strainer as standard to protect the heating system and extend service life — no additional purchase required.

📐

Monobloc — No F-Gas Cert Required

Hermetically sealed refrigeration circuit means no F-Gas qualification is needed to install — reducing barriers for the wider installer community.

Up to 7-Year Warranty

Enhanced warranty available when registered on Baxi Works within the promotional window, giving homeowners long-term peace of mind.

More Ways to Get the Most from Baxi Heat Pumps

Beyond the cashback, Baxi offers two valuable tools — one for installers looking to access the Boiler Upgrade Scheme without full MCS accreditation, and one for homeowners wanting a fast heat pump estimate.

🏅

Baxi MCS Umbrella Scheme
— For Installers

If you're a heating engineer who isn't yet MCS-accredited, the Baxi MCS Umbrella Scheme lets you install Baxi heat pumps under Baxi's MCS registration — meaning your customers can still access the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant from day one, without you needing to achieve full MCS certification first.

The scheme covers qualifying Baxi HP40 and HP60 installations at domestic properties across England, Scotland, and Wales. This is a significant opportunity for installers transitioning into the heat pump market, removing the accreditation barrier while Baxi provides technical support, design, and compliance guidance.

How an Air Source Heat Pump Works

Heat pumps don't generate heat — they move it. Understanding this is key to setting correct homeowner expectations and sizing the system accurately.

1

Heat Extraction from Outdoor Air

A fan draws outdoor air across the evaporator coil. The liquid refrigerant (R290 in the HP60) absorbs heat energy from the air and evaporates into a gas, even at temperatures as low as −25°C.

2

Compression Raises the Temperature

An inverter-driven compressor pressurises the refrigerant gas, significantly raising its temperature. This is where the electrical input is used — typically 1 kWh to move 4–5 kWh of heat.

3

Heat Transfer to the Heating Circuit

The hot refrigerant gas passes through a condenser/plate heat exchanger, transferring heat to the home's central heating water circuit — which flows to radiators, underfloor heating, or the cylinder coil.

4

Refrigerant Resets — Cycle Repeats

The refrigerant is expanded back to a low-pressure liquid through an expansion valve and the cycle begins again. The Baxi HP60's inverter modulates output continuously to match demand, maximising efficiency.
