Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) is the safest lithium chemistry for residential energy storage. Unlike NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) batteries used in EVs, LiFePO₄ does not enter thermal runaway in the event of damage or deep discharge — there is no chain reaction, no fire propagation risk. The chemistry is also inherently more thermally stable, which directly translates into longer cycle life: the W10.6 is rated for over 6,000 full charge-discharge cycles at 90% DoD before capacity falls to 70% of original — roughly 16 years of daily cycling at that rate.
✔ IP65 — True Outdoor Installation
IP65 means the enclosure is completely sealed against dust ingress (the "6") and protected against water jets from any direction (the "5"). This is a significantly higher rating than many competing batteries rated only IP55 or IP54. It allows the W10.6 to be installed directly on an external wall — under an overhang, in a sheltered outdoor position, or in a damp garage or plant room — without requiring a weatherproof enclosure. It also operates in temperatures as low as –20°C during discharge, making it one of the most cold-climate-capable batteries in its class.
✔ 9.58kWh Usable — 90% Depth of Discharge
The W10.6 delivers 9.58kWh of usable DC energy at the rated 90% depth of discharge — one of the higher usable-to-nominal ratios available. An average UK home consumes 8–10kWh per day, meaning a single W10.6 can typically cover a full night of household consumption from solar generation stored during the day, leaving sufficient residual SOC for morning demand before panels begin generating. The remaining 10% reserve at the bottom protects the cells from deep discharge damage.
✔ Scalable to 340kWh — Up to 32 Units Parallel
Up to 32 W10.6 batteries can be connected in parallel from a single Sunsynk inverter, providing a maximum system capacity of 340kWh. This scalability makes the W10.6 suitable for large residential, light commercial, and aggregated community energy projects as well as standard 1–3 battery residential systems. Adding capacity later requires no system redesign — subsequent batteries are connected in parallel with the same cable arrangement, and the BMS automatically manages load balancing across the battery string.
✔ Integrated BMS + DC 250A Circuit Breaker
The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors and manages every cell in the battery pack — balancing charge across cells, enforcing temperature limits during charging and discharging, preventing over-voltage, under-voltage, and short-circuit conditions, and managing the communication with the inverter. The built-in DC 2-pole 250A circuit breaker provides hardware-level isolation for safe installation and maintenance without requiring external DC isolators. Together, BMS and breaker satisfy the protection requirements of the MCS and G99 frameworks for BESS installations.
✔ CAN2.0 & RS485 — Wide Inverter Compatibility
The W10.6 communicates via CAN2.0 and RS485 — the two most widely used battery communication protocols in the residential storage market. CAN2.0 is the native protocol for Sunsynk hybrid inverters, providing full SOC visibility, charge/discharge management, and fault reporting within the Sunsynk ecosystem. RS485 enables connection to other compatible hybrid inverters from brands including Solis, Deye, and others that support Pylontech or compatible RS485 battery protocols. A Wi-Fi/RS232 port on the unit provides additional connectivity options.
✔ Wall Mount or 19" Rack Cabinet
The W10.6 supports two installation formats: direct wall mounting using the included hanging board and pedestal, and 19-inch standard rack cabinet mounting for server-room or commercial installations. Wall mounting is the most common residential configuration, with the battery hanging on a wall-mounted plate and the pedestal supporting the base. Rack mounting allows multiple batteries to be stacked in a standard IT cabinet for high-density commercial deployments or where floor space is limited. Available in black or white to match the installation environment.
✔ 32MWh Lifetime Throughput — Long-Term Warranty
Sunsynk guarantees a 32MWh lifetime energy throughput — meaning the battery will charge and discharge at least 32 megawatt-hours of total energy before the warranty expires. At a typical 9kWh daily cycle, this equates to over 9 years of daily usage. The warranty expires at whichever comes first: the time-based warranty period or the 32MWh energy throughput threshold. For lower-utilisation installations (e.g., backup-only rather than daily cycling), the time-based warranty will be the limiting factor; for high-utilisation daily cycling systems, the throughput warranty may be the effective limit.
