Santon 2 and 4 Pole DC Isolator 16A 1000V

Description

The Santon Silios D DC isolator (types D1-G1 2-pole and D14-G1 4-pole) is a DC-21 rated safety switch for isolating PV string circuits at 16 A up to 1000 V DC. It uses Santon's X-type snap-action mechanism (3 ms disconnect, self-cleaning blade contacts) in a UV-resistant IP65 ABS enclosure with a black-and-red padlockable knob.

Choose the 2-pole D1-G1 to isolate the positive and negative of one circuit, or the 4-pole D14-G1 to isolate two circuits in one enclosure, for example two strings feeding two MPPT inputs. Two safety-seal positions let you seal the switch after commissioning, and the lid can be removed in the OFF position for easy terminal access.

Key notes before you specify

Installation and safety

A DC isolator makes the inverter side safe to work on, but PV modules and the cabling on the array side stay live in daylight. Install by a competent person in line with BS 7671 Section 712 (IEC 60364-7-712), isolate and padlock in the OFF position before working on the circuit, and never open the lid with the switch ON.

Rating note: size to your string

Santon's selection table lists 16 A at up to 1000 V DC and 25 A at up to 800 V DC for these 2-pole and 4-pole enclosures. Size the isolator to the string's maximum open-circuit voltage (including cold-weather Voc) and short-circuit current, and contact us if your design sits close to a limit.

Which pole count?

A 2-pole isolator switches the + and − of a single circuit. A 4-pole isolator switches two circuits in one enclosure, which suits dual-MPPT inverters with two strings.

No. The enclosure has knockouts for up to 8 x M16 cable glands, and the glands are supplied separately so you can choose the type that suits your cable.

Can I padlock or seal the isolator?

Yes. The knob is padlockable in the OFF position and the enclosure has two positions for safety seals, useful for lock-out during maintenance and for tracking installer access.

Is this a firefighter switch?

No. It is a manual DC isolator. A firefighter safety switch is a separate motor-driven device that opens the DC circuit automatically when the AC supply is interrupted.
