Description

Doncaster H6242Y is a 2.5 mm² twin and earth cable with a grey PVC sheath, made to BS 6004 and BASEC approved. It is a common fixed wiring cable for the mains supply to an air conditioning unit, such as a spur or final circuit to the isolator and indoor or outdoor unit, and for general domestic and light industrial wiring. Supplied on a 100 m reel.

It has plain annealed copper conductors, PVC insulation and sheath and a bare circuit protective conductor (earth), with brown and blue cores, rated 300/500 V. It can be installed in conduit, trunking or clipped direct in dry or damp premises, and is intended for fixed installation only.

Is this the right cable for the power supply to an air conditioning unit?

Twin and earth is the usual fixed wiring cable for mains supply circuits. Check the air conditioning unit's manual for the supply cable size, the protective device and the isolator requirements, and have the circuit designed to BS 7671.

Can I use it outside or underground?

It is intended for fixed installation in dry or damp premises and must not be laid underground. The grey PVC sheath is not designed for direct sunlight, so use conduit or trunking, or an outdoor-rated cable, for exposed external runs.

Does the earth need sleeving?

Yes. The bare circuit protective conductor must be sleeved green/yellow at every termination.

What size cable do I need?

Is it the same as Earthsure?

No. Earthsure is Doncaster's twin and earth with a pre-identified green/yellow earth. The H6242Y has a bare earth conductor that needs sleeving.
