Installer-Only Wiring
This thermostat is powered by 230V AC mains supply and switches 230V AC valve and fan outputs directly. Installation, wiring, and connection work must be carried out by a qualified, appropriately licensed electrician in accordance with local and EU wiring regulations. Always isolate the mains supply to both the thermostat and the connected heat/cool source before working on the unit.
Model Variant Note
The EFAN-230B is the black-cased, 230V AC version of ENGO's Wi-Fi fan coil thermostat range (model code 932310554). A separate 24V DC version (EFAN-24B/EFAN-24W) exists with different wiring terminals (0–10V fan/valve outputs) — the specifications on this page apply to the 230V AC EFAN-230B only. Always confirm the voltage rating on the unit's rear label matches your system before wiring.
ENGO Smart App Control
The EFAN-230B connects to the free ENGO Smart app (iOS 9.0+ / Android 5.0+) via Tuya Cloud, enabling remote setpoint changes, 6-point daily scheduling, temperature history graphs, and voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Dual-Protocol Communication
Combines 2.4GHz Wi-Fi for app/cloud control with MODBUS RS-485 for direct integration into BMS and building automation systems — one device covers both smart-home and commercial control architectures.
Flexible Fan Coil Configurations
Supports 2-pipe heating-only, cooling-only, and heating/cooling systems as well as 4-pipe simultaneous heating and cooling, switched manually, via external volt-free contact, or automatically from a pipe or room air temperature sensor.
Mixed System Support
Can independently drive a 2-pipe fan coil circuit alongside a separate underfloor heating circuit from the same controller, using the V1 and V2 valve outputs.
Delta FAN Adaptive Speed Control
Automatically ramps 3-speed fan output in proportion to the gap between room and setpoint temperature, with independently configurable heating and cooling response ranges (Delta FAN Heating/Cooling, 1–10°C) to balance comfort against fan noise.
TPI Algorithm for Underfloor Heating
When configured for underfloor heating, the controller can switch from standard hysteresis to a Time Proportional and Integral (TPI) algorithm, pulsing the valve in short, adaptive bursts to reduce the overshoot typical of high thermal-inertia systems.
Frost and Overheat Protection
A dedicated FROST mode holds a constant, selectable setpoint between 5–17°C, activating heating automatically if the room temperature drops below the threshold — protecting pipework and fan coil units during unoccupied periods.
Multi-Function Auxiliary Inputs
The S1-COM input can serve as a pipe sensor, heating/cooling mode switch, or floor sensor input, while S2-COM can act as an ECO-mode occupancy switch or an external NTC air temperature sensor — reducing the need for additional controllers.
Settings Retained After Power Loss
All schedules, setpoints, and installer parameter settings are retained through a power interruption, so the controller resumes its exact prior configuration once power is restored.
Can the EFAN-230B control underfloor heating as well as a fan coil unit?
Yes. It supports a mixed system configuration where one 2-pipe fan coil circuit (heating or cooling) is controlled via output V1, and a separate underfloor heating circuit is controlled via output V2, each managed independently by the thermostat.
What's the difference between the EFAN-230B and EFAN-230W?
The EFAN-230B and EFAN-230W share identical 230V AC electrical specifications and functionality — the only difference is the housing colour (black for the -B, white for the -W).
Does the EFAN-230B work without an internet connection?
The thermostat can be operated locally using its 3 side buttons for manual mode, schedule mode, and fan speed changes without any internet connection. Wi-Fi and the ENGO Smart app are only required for remote control, scheduling from a phone, and voice assistant integration.
Can this thermostat automatically switch between heating and cooling?
Yes. Using the S1-COM input with a pipe or room sensor, or an external volt-free contact, the EFAN-230B can automatically switch a 2-pipe system between heating and cooling based on pipe temperature thresholds, or switch a 4-pipe system based on room temperature and a configurable dead zone.
How many devices can be linked on the MODBUS RS-485 bus?
Up to 247 slave devices can share a single MODBUS RTU network, each requiring a unique address. ENGO recommends a linear (daisy-chain) bus topology with 120Ω termination resistors at each end, avoiding star wiring.
What happens to my settings if there's a power cut?
All setpoints, schedules, and installer parameters are stored in memory and automatically restored once power returns — there's no need to reconfigure the thermostat after a power interruption.
