The Baxi AmbiZen Additional Thermostat for Multi-Zone Control (MPN 7907002) expands your existing Baxi AmbiZen smart heating system to cover a second heating zone, giving each area of your home its own independent wireless room thermostat. Designed to pair directly with the existing AmbiZen gateway already wired to your boiler, this accessory thermostat delivers the same intelligent features as the main unit — including 7-day scheduling, holiday mode, weather-responsive adjustment, and full control via the My Baxi app — without any additional gateway hardware. It is the cleanest way to extend smart multi-zone heating throughout a larger home using the Baxi AmbiZen ecosystem.
This thermostat is an add-on accessory and requires a Baxi AmbiZen thermostat and gateway already commissioned and wired to a compatible boiler as a prerequisite. It cannot operate as a standalone thermostat. Installation and commissioning must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer where the heating system involves gas appliances. The system must be correctly registered on the Baxi Works platform to activate the full 2-year parts warranty.
The AmbiZen system — including this additional thermostat — is compatible with Baxi Combi 2 ranges, the Baxi Amptec S electric boiler (central heating only), Baxi Pre-Plumbed Cylinders, and Baxi Air Source Heat Pumps (compatibility on ASHP may vary due to heat pump control architecture — confirm with your installer before ordering). The gateway must be connected at Connection X9 on the main PCB of compatible Baxi Combi 2 boilers, and the original red link wire must remain in place. This thermostat is not compatible with other Baxi thermostat ranges (uSense 2, OpenTherm RF, RF Twin Channel).
The Baxi AmbiZen system, including multi-zone configurations, supports compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations and the Boiler Plus requirements applicable to England. The weather-responsive operation built into the AmbiZen ecosystem — delivered through the My Baxi app — qualifies as an energy-saving measure under Boiler Plus. Installers should confirm compliance requirements with the relevant Building Control body for each project.
Key Features & Engineering Benefits
Pairing this additional thermostat to the existing gateway means each zone reports its own room temperature independently, allowing the system to call for heat only when that zone genuinely needs it. This avoids the inefficiency of a single thermostat location dictating heat demand across the whole house — a common source of energy waste in larger properties.
Each thermostat in the AmbiZen system supports 7-day, 5/2-day, or 24-hour heating programmes, with independent schedules per zone. A bedroom zone can be programmed differently from a living area or a home office — so heating only runs where it is needed, when it is needed, rather than on a blanket-home basis.
This thermostat communicates with the existing AmbiZen gateway via wireless RF. There is no wiring run between the thermostat and the boiler or gateway, making it practical to install in rooms where cabling a wired thermostat would require significant building work. Batteries power the thermostat, keeping installation fast and tidy.
Once commissioned, the additional zone is accessible within the My Baxi app (iOS and Android) alongside the primary zone. Set or adjust temperature targets, review schedules, and monitor energy use for each zone remotely. Voice control via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT works across all paired AmbiZen thermostats in the system.
The AmbiZen ecosystem uses live outdoor weather data to automatically adjust boiler flow temperatures based on external conditions. This weather compensation function — active across all zones — reduces energy consumption on milder days without any manual input, improving seasonal efficiency and helping reduce heating bills over time.
Holiday mode on each thermostat holds a reduced setback temperature while you are away, preventing frost damage and ensuring the home is comfortable upon your return without disrupting the normal programmed schedule. This is managed per zone through the My Baxi app, so a frequently unoccupied room can maintain a different absence temperature to the main living areas.

Do I need a second gateway to add this thermostat?
No. This additional thermostat pairs wirelessly with the AmbiZen gateway already connected to your boiler. You do not need to purchase or wire an additional gateway. The existing gateway handles communication with both the primary thermostat and this additional zone thermostat. Confirm zone valve or actuator wiring requirements with your installer for multi-zone systems where motorised zone valves are used.
Can each zone have its own temperature setting and schedule?
Yes. Each AmbiZen thermostat in the system operates independently, with its own target temperature, schedule, and mode settings. The primary and additional thermostats each sense and report the temperature in their respective rooms, allowing the system to manage heat demand differently across zones. Both are accessible and adjustable through the My Baxi app simultaneously.
What error code will I see if the thermostat is not detected?
If communication between any AmbiZen thermostat and the gateway is lost — for instance, if batteries have run flat — the boiler will display error code H0081, indicating no thermostat is detected. Re-inserting fresh batteries will cause the thermostat to automatically re-pair with the gateway without any manual programming. If the error persists after a battery change, a manual re-pair procedure should be followed as described in the AmbiZen installation documentation.
Can this thermostat also be placed on a stand rather than wall-mounted?
Yes. Like the main AmbiZen thermostat, this additional unit can be wall-mounted or placed on a desktop stand. The stand (MPN 7901564) is available separately. No drilling is required when using the stand, making it practical for rooms where wall fixings are not desired, such as rented accommodation or rooms with tiled or decorated walls. Simply move it to a different surface if the optimal sensing position changes.
How do I reset the AmbiZen gateway if I need to re-pair devices?
To factory-reset the AmbiZen gateway (for example, when re-commissioning or changing router details), hold the gateway button down for 20 seconds until the LED flashes purple — this resets the gateway to its factory state. You will then need to re-pair all thermostats (primary and additional) and reconnect to the My Baxi app. Note that if you have changed your Wi-Fi router or password, you will need to delete your My Baxi app account and re-register with the new network credentials before the system will reconnect.
Is this compatible with the Baxi Amptec S electric boiler for both heating and hot water zones?
The Baxi AmbiZen system — including this additional thermostat — is compatible with the Baxi Amptec S electric boiler for central heating control only. Hot water control via the AmbiZen is not supported on the Amptec S. For systems requiring independent hot water zone control, discuss alternative configurations with your installing engineer. Compatibility with the Baxi Combi 2 range covers both heating and hot water scheduling.
