Air Conditioners | Portable, Split & Cassette Systems for Home & Commercial

Effective air conditioning is no longer a luxury — as UK summers become hotter and buildings become better insulated, the ability to actively cool and control indoor temperature has become a practical necessity for homes, offices, and commercial spaces alike. This collection covers the full range of air conditioning products, from compact portable units requiring no installation to permanently fitted split systems and ceiling cassettes sized for light commercial applications.

Types of air conditioning in this collection

Air conditioning products broadly divide by installation type and application, each suited to different building types, room sizes, and usage patterns:

Portable air conditioners are self-contained, freestanding units that require no permanent installation. A flexible exhaust hose vents hot air through a window or purpose-made wall sleeve — no refrigerant pipework, no engineer, no planning considerations. Portable units are well suited to rooms where a split system is impractical, temporary cooling requirements, caravans and mobile spaces, and situations where tenant or planning restrictions prevent permanent installation. Performance is rated in BTUs; typical UK rooms of 15–25 m² suit units in the 9,000–12,000 BTU range, while larger or south-facing rooms with heavier solar gain benefit from 14,000–18,000 BTU models. Look for units with integrated dehumidifier and fan modes for year-round utility, and Wi-Fi control for convenience.

Wall-mounted split systems consist of an indoor wall unit connected by refrigerant pipework to an outdoor condensing unit. Installation requires a qualified F-Gas registered engineer to handle the refrigerant circuit, but the result is a permanently fitted, highly efficient system with far better performance than any portable unit. Modern split systems use inverter-driven compressors that modulate output to match demand rather than cycling on and off, delivering precise temperature control and significantly lower running costs than fixed-speed equivalents. Critically, most wall-mounted splits function as reverse-cycle heat pumps, providing both cooling in summer and supplementary heating in winter at efficiencies of 300–500% (CoP 3–5) — making them a practical year-round climate solution. Models in this range are rated A++ for cooling and A+ for heating under the EU/UK ErP Directive and use R32 refrigerant, which has a lower global warming potential than older R410A systems.

Ceiling cassette systems are designed for commercial and light-commercial applications where wall space is limited or 360° airflow distribution is preferred. Cassette units sit flush within a ceiling void with only the face panel visible, distributing conditioned air in four directions for even coverage across larger areas — retail spaces, open-plan offices, restaurants, and studio environments. Units in this range pair a ceiling-mounted cassette with a dedicated outdoor condensing unit and wall controller, and are available from 2.5kW up to 10.5kW to suit a wide range of room volumes and occupancy loads.

Products in this collection

The range spans products from Eurom, Haier, and Worcester Bosch. Eurom's portable units are compact and practical, including the R290 refrigerant-based AC3201E split portable — well suited for caravans and smaller spaces — alongside the PAC 12000 BTU all-in-one portable with Wi-Fi control and integrated dehumidifier. Haier's Revive Plus wall-mounted monosplit range covers 2.7kW to 5.0kW, all A++-rated on R32 and operating as air-to-air heat pumps for year-round use. Haier's Round Flow Cassette systems (2.5kW to 10.5kW) are engineered for light commercial environments requiring even airflow from a ceiling-flush unit. Worcester Bosch's Climate CL3000i wall-mounted splits — available from 2.6kW to 7kW — offer A++ cooling and A+ heating on R32 and carry the Worcester Bosch name recognition that many UK installers and homeowners already trust.

Choosing the right system

The correct BTU or kW rating depends on room floor area, ceiling height, glazing exposure (particularly south- and west-facing rooms), occupancy, and the thermal performance of the building fabric. As a starting point, allow approximately 100W per m² for standard residential rooms, adjusted upward for high solar gain, poorly insulated spaces, or rooms above ground floor. Our BTU calculator is available to assist with sizing. For split and cassette systems, always ensure installation is carried out by an F-Gas registered engineer; correct refrigerant handling is a legal requirement and directly affects system efficiency and warranty validity.
