The Eurom PAC 12.3 Compact is a 12,000 BTU (3,500 W) portable air conditioner designed for rooms up to 38 m² / 105 m³ under low heat-load conditions. Powered by the natural R290 refrigerant (propane, GWP = 3), it offers three operating modes — cooling, dehumidification, and fan — in a compact, wheeled unit that stores easily when not in use. With a washable air filter, 24-hour programmable timer, and Energy Class A rating, the PAC 12.3 is a practical, low-maintenance choice for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and home offices. Note: this model does not have a heating mode — it cools and dehumidifies only.
At just 28.5 × 33.5 × 69.8 cm and 24 kg, the PAC 12.3 is notably smaller and lighter than most portable ACs at this capacity. The slim tower footprint means it fits beside furniture or in a corner without dominating the room, and it stores flat in a cupboard over winter. Integrated castors make it easy to move between rooms.
The 12,000 BTU / 3,500 W compressor cools rooms up to 38 m² in lightly loaded conditions (good insulation, limited glazing). In rooms with high solar gain, south-facing windows, or poor insulation, effective coverage is 24 m² / 66 m³. Two fan speeds — 280 m³/h (low) and 300 m³/h (high) — let you tune airflow to comfort and noise preference.
In dehumidification mode, the unit removes up to 1.2 litres of moisture per hour from the air without the full cooling effect. This is useful in damp rooms, conservatories, and during prolonged wet periods. Condensate is evacuated through the exhaust hose in cooling mode or via the drain outlet. The internal insulating drum minimises compressor noise across all modes.
R290 (propane) is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon with a GWP of only 3 and zero ozone depletion potential. It also has excellent thermodynamic efficiency, meaning the compressor does more work per unit of energy compared with synthetic HFCs. The result is a genuinely Class A energy rating without compromising cooling performance. No F-Gas handling certification is required for disposal in domestic use.
The 0–24 hour programmable timer can be set to pre-cool a room before you arrive, or to switch off automatically overnight. An adjustable thermostat with an operating range of 16–35°C maintains the selected temperature, cycling the compressor on and off as needed. Overheat protection shuts the unit down automatically if internal temperatures exceed safe limits.
The washable air filter removes dust and particles from the airstream, keeping the evaporator coil clean and maintaining airflow efficiency. Eurom recommends cleaning the filter regularly — a clean filter maintains cooling performance and protects the compressor from debris ingestion. No replacement filters to buy; rinse under a tap and refit when dry. A 3-year manufacturer's warranty is included.

Does the Eurom PAC 12.3 Compact have a heating mode?
No — the PAC 12.3 Compact is a cooling-only portable air conditioner. It operates in three modes: cooling, dehumidification, and fan. There is no heat pump function and no electric heating element. If you need a portable unit that also provides heating, you would need to look at models such as the Eurom Polar or Coolperfect ranges, which include a reverse-cycle heat pump. Always verify the spec sheet for the model you are considering before purchase.
What room size is 12,000 BTU right for — and why does coverage vary?
Eurom rates the PAC 12.3 for up to 38 m² / 105 m³ under low heat-load conditions — a well-insulated room with limited glazing, few occupants, and no significant heat-generating equipment. In rooms with high heat loads (south-facing windows, poor insulation, conservatories, or many people), the effective coverage drops to 24 m² / 66 m³. For a typical UK living room (15–22 m²) or master bedroom in a modern house, the PAC 12.3 will cool effectively under most conditions. For open-plan spaces above 30 m² or glazed extensions, the 12,000 BTU model may struggle on the hottest days.
Does this model have Wi-Fi or app control?
No — the PAC 12.3 Compact does not have Wi-Fi or any app connectivity. It is controlled via the onboard control panel and the included remote handset. The 24-hour programmable timer is the only scheduling feature and is set manually. If remote app control is important to you, Eurom offers separate Wi-Fi-enabled models in their Cool-Eco and Coolperfect lines.
What is R290 refrigerant and is it safe to use at home?
R290 is propane, a naturally occurring hydrocarbon used as a refrigerant in a growing number of energy-efficient appliances. It has a Global Warming Potential of just 3 (compared to 2,088 for R410A), making it one of the most environmentally responsible refrigerants available. In sealed appliances like the PAC 12.3, the refrigerant circuit is hermetically closed and the small charge used poses no practical safety concern in a normally ventilated domestic space. The unit does not require F-Gas certified handling for normal use or disposal under domestic regulations, though any service involving the refrigerant circuit should be carried out by a competent person.
How do I install and exhaust the unit — does it need permanent fitting?
No permanent installation is required. Simply position the unit in your chosen room, extend the exhaust hose to a window, and fit the included Window Kit and adapter to seal the opening around the hose. Plug into any standard 13A socket (220–240 V / 50 Hz). For windows that tilt rather than slide, the optional Eurom Window Way-Out accessory allows the hose to pass through without permanent modification. Always operate the unit with the exhaust hose connected when in cooling or dehumidification mode — running without the hose will recirculate warm exhaust air back into the room, drastically reducing performance.
How loud is the PAC 12.3 and can it be used in a bedroom?
The PAC 12.3 has a maximum noise level of 65 dB(A) at full power. At the lower of the two fan speeds, operational noise is noticeably quieter. Most users find the lower setting acceptable as background noise during sleep, particularly with the unit positioned across the room. The unit includes an internal insulating drum around the compressor which reduces mechanical noise compared to conventional portable AC designs. A popular approach is to use the 24-hour timer to pre-cool the bedroom before sleeping, then let the unit switch off or reduce to fan-only mode overnight.
