The Enphase IQ8X Microinverter (model IQ8X-80-M-INT) is Enphase's highest-output single-phase microinverter for the UK market — purpose-engineered for modern 80-half-cell, 88-half-cell, and 96-cell high-power PV modules that are now the standard in new residential and commercial installations. Delivering a 384 W maximum AC output and a 97.5% peak efficiency (96.7% EU weighted), it extracts the maximum generation from today's large-format panels while maintaining the per-panel safety and monitoring that define the Enphase IQ System. It carries a 25-year limited warranty (with connected IQ Gateway), is certified to G98, G99, and G100, and carries the CE mark per the current GB datasheet DSH-00394-3.0 (June 2025).
The IQ8X's DC MPP voltage range of 43–60 V is specifically aligned with the Vmp characteristics of modern 80+ half-cell modules, which typically operate at 38–46 V under UK irradiance conditions. Pairing the IQ8X with correctly matched modules avoids clipping losses and allows the microinverter to stay in MPPT across the widest possible range of irradiance — early morning, overcast, and high-summer noon.
At 384 W maximum AC output, the IQ8X delivers more AC power per unit than any other standard Enphase single-phase microinverter. For roof areas with limited space or shading constraints, using higher-power microinverters on fewer panels can maintain system kWp targets while reducing the total number of cable connections and installation time.
Enphase's patented Burst Mode technology allows the IQ8X to continue producing power at very low irradiance levels where a conventional inverter would drop out. This extends generation into early morning, late evening, and overcast conditions — delivering measurably more annual kWh than the nameplate rating alone suggests.
The IQ8X implements module-level rapid shutdown: when the IQ Gateway de-energises the AC bus, each microinverter immediately reduces its DC operating voltage to a safe level. This protects firefighters and emergency responders from dangerous DC voltages at rooftop level — meeting the fire safety requirements that are increasingly mandated across UK and European installations.
The IQ8X uses an isolated high-frequency transformer topology, providing galvanic isolation between the PV module's DC circuit and the AC grid. This eliminates the risk of DC ground faults propagating to the AC side, simplifies array earthing design, and is the reason the protective class for all ports is rated Class II.
Every IQ8X reports production data to the IQ Gateway via powerline communication (PLC) at 110–120 kHz — no additional wiring or Wi-Fi required per inverter. Panel-level data is visible in the Enphase App and Installer Platform, enabling rapid fault identification, remote diagnostics, and performance warranty evidence for homeowners.
